Bavaria Studios selects BFE for Bavaria OB Van

(08/05/2015) Bavaria Studios assigned the OB van specialist BFE Studio und Medien Systeme GmbH, to realize the coach building of the HD OB1 Van which will be used both for productions on Bavaria premises and outside broadcasts. The challenge has been to completely outsource the HD control room and to integrate it in the Bavaria OB1 van. In this context, the functionalities and workflows of a studio control room had to be combined and realized with that of an OB van.

The OB van was realized as a semi-trailer with a 3-axle chassis. The five work areas are divided in sound room, video control room A and video control room B, image technology with Avid work place and a central equipment room. The construction comprises of an expandable side panel over the entire length of the vehicle which expands the space by around 1,60m. The Bavaria OB1 is designed for a total of 16 cameras.

The trailer has an automatic level control and also the extended part is hydraulically controlled. A specialty is the set-up time of the trailer which is less than 15 minutes.

All cabling intensive devices are located in the fixed part and thus ensure a long life time of the cable connections and reduce the risk of failure to a minimum.

The production unit has been designed for maximum flexibility. In order to accomplish this, special attention has been paid to the ergonomics of the individual operating spaces, on the maintenance and access to the equipment.

The audio space of the production vehicle is equipped with video monitoring and a high-quality interception system. The quality of Dolby 5.1 and the quality of sound insulation of the cabin have been the two main objectives for implementation.

By shifting the glassed room partitions between video control rooms A and B, one large control room can be obtained.

The multifunctional work places which are located behind the video control rooms equipped with freely connectable monitors and are thus universal for slow motion, graphics and editors.

The Bavaria OB1 has been in operating for 3 months now and has its trial period behind it with productions such as Aktenzeichen xy (presenting unresolved criminal cases), Candid Camera and the Natural Wonder Show.
