Townsville has a new resident and she is voiced by South African pop artist Toya Delazy. Cartoon Network will run a five-episode special of its popular Powerpuff Girls called Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four.
Who is the new girl in town? Buttercup, Bubbles and Blossom have a long lost teenage sister who has superpowers just like them but with a little more melanin. Bliss is her name and she is made of brown sugar and spice and everything nice.
She was Professor Utonium's first creation before she created what we have come to know as the original Powerpuff Girls. She mysteriously disappeared but has now reunited with her sisters and they are kicking butt as they always do.
However seeing that she's a teenager, I doubt she'll be very pleased about having the same curfew as her sisters.
A dream come true for Toya Delazy says voicing the new character has her realizing one of her childhood dreams.
I have always wanted to be a voice-over-artist for a cartoon character, this has been something I have wanted to do ever since I was a child. Never did I think I would be recording a voice over as the new Powerpuff Girl for Cartoon Network Africa though! It is an honour to be associated with the campaign and to represent Cartoon Network on the African continent again, she said
The special is tailored for the African audience and is in line with Cartoon Network's style of packaging some of their content for the local market.
The special will premiere on Saturday, 7 October at the upcoming DSTV Delicious International Food and Music Festival where it will be screened in a dedicated Kids Zone.
No need to worry if you cannot make it to the festival. It will premiere on the channel on Saturday, 21 October at 08:00 am.
