PRG Provides the Ultimate Lighting Solution for Teenage Cancer Trust at the RAH

(06/05/2014) 2014s Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) at the Royal Albert Hall has yet again seen a string of hugely successful performances given by some of the worlds most popular concert touring artists including Ed Sheeran, The Cure, Suede and Paolo Nutini along with an evening of comedy hosted by Jason Manford. As has been the case for many years Production Resource Group (PRG) provided a skilled team of expert crew along with a comprehensive lighting and rigging package.

The chock-full week of TCT events, which supports young people with cancer, has now been running for 14 years and is supported by a host of celebrities including rock legend Roger Daltrey.

Esteemed lighting designer for The Who, Tom Kenny, has designed the TCT show since its inception. Its great that PRG supports me every year to deliver appropriate lighting for the diverse cornucopia of artists who play during TCT week, explains Kenny. This consistency proved valuable this year when Kenny was not available for set-up and programmer Dave Farmer and PRG Senior Event Services Coordinator Gordon Torrington stepped up to make sure Kennys design was executed flawlessly.

Kenny affirms the value of this long-term relationship. We have to deliver a multitude of lighting looks and Gordon and his crew ensure we achieve this smoothly and with speed. PRG has supported both The Who and the annual TCT week for a number of years - both with equal passion for perfection.

PRGs continuous involvement with the TCT event means that today the company can bring an unparalleled level of expertise and knowledge to the proceedings. PRG has always worked closely with the RAH technical team on this gig, says Torrington. More recently we have used the venues in-house flown rig, which means we only have to supply the specials along with the floor packages for each act. This works well for everyone concerned and keeps load in times down to a minimum, which in turn gives us a great deal more flexibility in what we can achieve. The Halls technical team, headed up by Ollie Jeffery, has invested much time and skill to build up a relevant house rig and its now paying off for all of us.

Torringtons tailored floor and specials package augments the RAHs existing rig and comprised: 30 VL3000 Spots, 6 VL3500 Washes, 12 Sharpys, Atomic Colours, GLP ImpressionRZ120 and Sunstrips as well as Mbox Extreme Media Servers and several Whole Hog Full Boars.

PRG also manufactured and supplied 12 sponsorship gobos, which were used to project TCTs logos onto the halls acoustic mushrooms.

As Gordon said previously, the rig needs to be both versatile and reliable, adds Yvonne Donnelly Smith, PRG Account Manager for TCT. As the week goes on it can be hard to predict everything that might happen, so we need a flexible design. It goes without saying that every year is different and we do our very best to ensure our package includes the latest and best fixtures on the market, which in turn ensures each and every act that plays looks fantastic.
