Senior representatives Adam Welsh, Dave Saville and Craig Risebury from Big Pic Media head to Las Vegas later this month to meet major supply partners and key customers at the 2017 NAB Convention. Organised by the US National Association of Broadcasters, the event will be held from Saturday April 22 through Thursday April 27 with the parallel exhibition open April 24 - 27.
We represent six companies which will be exhibiting their products and services at the NAB Show itself and two which will be running concurrent hotel suite presentations, says Big Pic Media Ltd managing director Adam Welsh. These are Blackmagic Design, Cinnafilm (Wynn hotel), DFT (Westgate hotel), FilmFabriek, Leader Electronics, Marquise Technologies, Ortana Media Group and Spot & Spin. They will be demonstrating some of the worlds most advanced broadcast media production equipment, software and services.
Blackmagic Design : Blackmagic Designs Cintel Film Scanner is the worlds first real time 4K film scanner to use 20 gigabit per second Thunderbolt 2, making it easy to set up and install. The Cintel scanner incorporates a new diffuse high-intensity light source and provides the high resolution of a film scanner plus the real time use of a traditional telecine. New for NAB this year are the KeyKode and Audio Head that allows for the reading of Keykode and Optical and Magnetic Sound direct from the film in one pass. In addition, for Resolve and Cintel Scanner users, the new Mini and Micro control panels will make their first NAB Show appearance.
Cinnafilm (Wynn hotel suite): Cinnafilms Tachyon give users access to high quality format and standards conversions tools, elevating their regular transcodes to Tachyon powered Standards Transcoders. Cinnafilm's patented GPU-based algorithms in Tachyon replace dedicated SDI hardware converters.
DFT (Westgate hotel suite): DFTs Scanity HDR will be demonstrated with new features including film archive scanning for mass digitisation; EDL/conform scanning; low resolution browsing for archive and restoration; short-form commercials; and 4K UHD ready and digital intermediate scanning. Advantages over other scanners include a touchless patented capstan drive lens gate assembly which provides automatic shrinkage compensation and gentle film handling.
Leader Electronics Corporation : Centrepiece of the Leader demonstration will be the latest additions to the LV5490 4K/UHD/HD/SD multiscreen waveform monitor. Options available include HDR measurement; 12G-SDI connectivity; analysis of high frame-rate 4K signals at up to 8x real-time; support for Sony's IP Live Video and the Networked Media Interface. The CINELITE II toolset comes as a standard feature.
Filmfabriek : FilmFabrieks HDS+ film scanner will be demonstrated with new capabilities including frictionless XL archival rollers for 8/16/9.5 mm Path formats to digitize damaged, brittle or otherwise lost celluloid archives; real-time auto LED-leveling implementing the full dynamic range of the sensor to give lower noise, less banding and more detail in the shadow areas; motionless tension controllers; 8 mm magnetic sound head (16 mm optical and magnetic also available); low noise external amplifier; reversal film scanning mode.
Marquise Technologies : Marquise Technologies will demonstrate HDR mastering and versioning workflows for high-end content. Its newest offerings fully support ITU BT2100 along with the HDR10 and HLG open standards, and Dolby Vision, allowing on-the-fly cross conversions between the standards. Up and down conversions are also made easy using multiple chroma correction tools, including secondary corrections for the luminance and an expanded chroma management system. QC of HDR content is facilitated and the image scopes are enhanced with HDR graticules and readouts.
Ortana Media Group : OMG is launching three major additions to its Cubix media asset management, automation and orchestration platform: Biometrics, Cognitive Services and Timelines. Also making their NAB debut will be two Cubix modules, Cubix Tracker & Reporting and Cubix Taskflow Designer. Cubix now consists of 27 modules which can be combined to match a wide range of deployments and applications.
SpectraCal/Portrait Displays : Portrait Displays will exhibit its SpectraCal range of video calibration software. The SpectraCal CalMAN is the most widely used video calibration software in the world. It now includes complete support for the new wider HDR color palettes, including unprecedented support for the BT.2020 color standard. It also supports a wide variety of HDR hardware devices including products from Atomos, Eizo, Murideo, Panasonic, Quantum Data and Teradek.
Spot & Spin : Spot & Spin gives film and television production and post houses a highly efficient way to ingest, archive and manipulate content without building up a large overhead of hardware. It offers secure online access to the full capabilities of the Cubix media asset management, automation and orchestration platform developed and produced by OMG. Spot & Spin is totally transparent in its charge structure. It is also highly scalable, whether a customer is digitising 10 assets or 100,000.
