Almost 600 Applicants for the Rails Girls Ljubljana Seminar Ljubljana, 10 December This weekend the first seminar in the international Rails Girls concept and community will take place at Telekom Slovenije premises, aimed at encouraging women to enter the world of computer programming and internet co-creation. The number of applications received confirms that there is a lot of interest for online education in Slovenia. By Friday 7 December, when the deadline for applications expired, there were almost 600 applications, while 41 mentors had offered to volunteer.

The response to the invitation for the Rails Girls Ljubljana seminar that will take place for the first time on 14 and 15 December 2012 in Ljubljana was exceptional, as an astounding 586 applications were submitted by Friday, 7 December, with 41 mentors from Slovenia, Croatia, and Finland volunteering to help. Most of the applicants for the Rails Girls Ljubljana seminar are from Ljubljana and the surrounding towns, however some applications came from all over Slovenia. The applicants reflect this seminar's target group, as more than two thirds of them have no previous programming experience. Nonetheless, the applicants are highly motivated for learning new things, as a quarter of them already have ideas for web applications that they would like to develop. Due to exceptional interest the event organizers, the Rails Girls Ljubljana team, are already looking for options of holding additional workshops, not only in Ljubljana, but also in other towns across Slovenia.

Rails Girls is an international community and concept of education for women who want to use basic tools to independently bring their ideas to fruition online. The first Rails Girls seminar was held in 2010 in Finland and the concept has quickly spread to all corners of the globe. The Rails Girls Ljubljana seminar will take place at Telekom Slovenije's premises on Vojkova 78 in Ljubljana, and the attendees will also receive support from the business accelerator TSstartup.
