SABC Sport seals FIFA rights --

On 31 March 2017, SABC Sport, a division of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), announced that it had secured exclusive rights in South Africa to be the Official Broadcaster of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and all additional FIFA events from 2017 till 2018, including the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, which South Africa has qualified for.
These rights comprise of exclusive terrestrial Television rights, Radio rights, certain Mobile transmission rights and Broadband transmission rights for the South African territory.
Additional FIFA events leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, include the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017, FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017, FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Bahamas 2017, FIFA U-17 Women s World Cup Uruguay 2018 and the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup France 2018.
SABC Sport recently broadcast the AFCON 2017 from Gabon, where Cameroon was crowned champions of African soccer. Cameroon will represent our continent at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, which SABC will bring to all South Africans in June this.
Ms Sully Motsweni, group executive, SABC Sport stated: It was important for SABC Sport to secure the FIFA rights because of our audience s desire to be able to experience events of this magnitude through the public service broadcaster s various platforms. What is also very important to us is that we will also be able to give our audience the FIFA World Cup in the language of their choice with the power of our 18 radio stations, over and above the regular TV coverage of the event. Another point to note is that we have also secured certain mobile transmission rights to make sure we have all our available broadcast platforms covering the event .
The SABC will continue to bring sports of national interest to its audiences, as it delivers on its public service mandate.
