72% of European households will receive signals DVB-T2 in 2022Dataxis provides that while in 2017, 30% of households receive DTT with the DVB-T2 standard, this figure will increase to 72% by 2022.

According to a study of Dataxis the second generation, DVB-T2, digital TV standard will experience a major boom in Europe between now and 2022.

Although the released spectrum may allow transmission of content UHD or additional channels, for example, the need for these improvements is still questionable in several European countries.

In 2017, twelve countries still use hybrid networks living first generation standard DVB-T and DVB-T2, more optimized. Dataxis predicts that this number will decrease to 8 in 2022, provided that national authorities do not opt to put it in standby as it has been the case of Belgium or Sweden.

Dataxis provides that while in 2017, 30% of households receive DTT with the DVB-T2 standard, this figure will increase to 72% by 2022.

This increase is mainly due to the change planned in several European countries, as it is the case of Italy and the provision of migration in Spain, which would lead to 25.8 million households to receive DVB-T2 (i.e. 57% of all households with DVB-T).

The question remains if the investments required for DVB-T2 will be worth the penalty for the remaining countries, which were able to implement HDTV via DVB-t to make a change from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. In addition, growth will be mainly driven by the free reception, which will continue to be the main way to receive DTT in 91 per cent of all households with DTT.
