15-Year-Old Female World SUP Champion, Izzi Gomez, joins the GoPro Roster
SUP star, Izzi Gomez, is talented beyond her years and continues to surprise the world with her ability to charge and dominate in the waves. She conquers sets that men and women with years of experience in the sport couldnt handle. Izzi has earned numerous awards within the SUP community, including the female 2014 SUP World Tour Champion. GoPro is stoked to welcome Izzi to its 2015 athlete roster and is excited to continue to watch her grow and dominate in 2015. We had the opportunity chat with Izzi between competitions about her success and how she uses GoPro to capture her sport.
GoPro: How do you think GoPro has impacted the SUP world over the last few years?
Izzi: SUP is the fastest growing water-sport and GoPro is the most versatile camera, which allows athletes to capture footage from angles never seen before. GoPro has been such an amazing contribution to every sport!
GoPro: How has your family helped you succeed?
Izzi: My family has been a huge support system for me throughout my life. I am so blessed to have the support of my family, friends and sponsors. If it weren't for them, I wouldnt be where I am today!
GoPro: As there are various GoPro mounts and accessories, what would you recommend for SUPing?
Izzi: I recommend the Handlebar / SeatPost mount, it works great to mount the camera on the SUP paddle. The surfboard mount is a must have for POV shots from your board. I also like to mix it up by adding tape to the Quick Clip to make a mouth mount, getting different perspectives of me riding.
GoPro: You have shocked the world as the youngest, most popular female SUP paddler...how has that affected your day to day life?
Izzi: Im still the same Izzi! Im just living life and taking it day by day. I am so thankful for the opportunities the SUP community has given to me.
GoPro: What advice would you give to someone using a GoPro while in the water? Are there any tips that you would give a new rider?
Izzi: The best advice I can give is to just have fun with it! Experiment and try different modes and angles. Try mounting the GoPro on your paddle, board, or even wear it on your body to get a variety of perspectives.
GoPro: Do you use GoPro to capture your life outside of your sport? If so, how?
Izzi: Yes, I take my GoPro with me wherever I go. I like to shoot everything anything because you never know what you're going to get. I like the element of surprise!
GoPro: I've been told you are quite the talented musician. GoPro recently came out with the HERO4 Music Editions...do you ever use GoPro to film yourself performing?
Izzi: I am so excited about the new music mounts! I usually mount one GoPro on my guitar and another camera on the stage because it gives a lot of cool perspectives. I cant wait to make a GoPro music video.
