The reference event 'NextSecure OT Cybersecurity' brings together more than 200 cybersecurity experts in Bilbao

S21sec, one of the European leaders in cybersecurity services acquired by Thales Group in 2022, has gathered more than 200 cybersecurity professionals at the 24th edition of its benchmark event, NextSecure OT Cybersecurity at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao.

The experts analysed the challenges and opportunities posed by the industrial sector in terms of cybersecurity, addressing both the technological and regulatory scenario, as well as the relevance of the companys innovative capabilities and services.

The event was attended by major companies such as Iberdrola, Repsol, Siemens Gamesa, the Centre for Industrial Cybersecurity, the Basque Cybersecurity Centre, Ziur, Nordex and Ertzaintza, among others.

Bilbao, 1 June 2023 - S21sec, one of the European leaders in cybersecurity services acquired by Thales Group in 2022, held the 24th edition of its reference event, NextSecure OT Cybersecurity at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao. The event brought together more than 200 cybersecurity professionals from the industrial sector, as well as the companys technology partners. On this occasion, the presentations focused on the challenges and opportunities presented by the industrial sector in terms of cybersecurity, analysing both the technological and regulatory scenario.

The meeting was attended by Pablo Echevarr a, CEO of S21SEC, who highlighted the main challenges currently facing the industrial sector, the potential impact of an attack on this sector, given the economic and social consequences that it may entail, as well as the role of regulation, which is becoming increasingly important, and the technological complexity involved, are the three basic challenges facing the industry in terms of cybersecurity. The general manager added, the industrial environment needs a specific approach, it faces many challenges but, fortunately, it has solutions and strategies to face these challenges, as we have seen here today from S21sec and Thales.

The event was divided into two days, the first was NextSecure OT Strategy, aimed at the C-Level or senior management business audience, and the second, NextSecure OT Labs, focused on showing a technical audience the best technologies on the market in terms of cybersecurity through live demonstrations and laboratories. The two round tables on the first day were attended by major companies such as Iberdrola, Repsol, Siemens Gamesa, the Centre for Industrial Cybersecurity, the Basque Cybersecurity Centre, Ziur, Nordex and Ertzaintza, among others, who debated the new OT cybersecurity regulations and intelligencebased incident detection and response in industrial environments.

One of the main issues discussed at the meeting was the relevance of the companys intelligence capabilities, which are necessary to identify the vectors used by adversaries at the time of an attack. Likewise, experts emphasised the importance of specialised monitoring, detection and reaction services to enable them to

anticipate any potential threats and avoid financial and reputational impact to the organisation.

Another of the central themes of the event was OT cybersecurity regulation, from the IEC62443 standard, which aims to secure industrial automation and control systems (IACS), to the recent NIS2 directive, which establishes an information security framework to guarantee the protection of information systems and networks in the European Union, with the aim of preventing attacks and guaranteeing the continuity of services. These and other regulations, focused on both general industry and specific areas - such as the connected vehicle or the railway industry - were analysed and highlighted during the meeting.

In the second part of the meeting, there were exhibitions of attack techniques, showing the importance of monitoring and highlighting the need for OT security both in the design and in the life cycle of any project. In short, a comprehensive vision of the current state of cybersecurity in the technological environment was presented.

An event focused on increasing the number of professionals in the field of cybersecurity

As part of the firms firm commitment to the early stimulation and recruitment of the talent that will lead the future of the sector, the second day of the event, NextSecure OT Academy, will take place on 2 June virtually and will be exclusively focused on those who will be the next cybersecurity experts: the students.
