A World Cup Victory with Technology from Schaeffler

Luge aces Natalie Geisenberger and Felix Loch were able to clinch the overall world championship early thanks to their impressive performance at last weekends Luge World Cup race in Altenberg. Schaeffler congratulates both athletes and the German Bobsleigh and Luge Association (BSD) on their victory. Schaeffler has been supporting luge sport with its technical expertise for many years and is proud to be among the partners contributing towards the success of these world-class athletes and the BSD. We were able to customize the sled to perfectly match the difficult track conditions, so everything was just right, said Felix Loch of his victory and the perfect technical conditions he had on his side.

The Schaeffler Groups Industrial division and the Institute for the Research and Development of Sports Equipment (FES) have had a cooperative partnership since 2010. Schaeffler supports the FES and Germanys sporting associations in the development of sports equipment and measuring systems for recording performance data - which includes the development of sleds and bobsleighs. There are just as many applications for rolling bearings, plain bearings, and linear guidance systems as for materials and surface coatings that are specially designed to match specific sports equipment. Just a few weeks ago, the BSD, the FES, and Schaeffler held a meeting in Herzogenaurach to discuss the expansion of this technical cooperation to include new areas of activity for optimizing sports equipment.
