Images as far as the eye can see photokina 2016 presents a large number of captivating photo exhibitions distributed throughout the entire fair grounds Under the umbrella PICTURES by photokina, the exhibitions extend from the impressive nature and animal photography of Jim Brandenburg (National Geographic) through the sophisitcated Handimals of Guido Daniele, the renowned photos of the Blende competition (Prophoto GmbH) to the moving photos selected by UNICEF 2015. PICTURES thus shows the life and work worlds of various continents, peoples and generations from many perspectives. Many exhibitions are the result of competitions for pros or hobby photographers. The Bride Photo Award is being presented for the first time at photokina.Here an overview:
1st DVF Portfolio Competition 2016 - DVF Deutscher Verband f r Fotografie e.V. exhibition of the three first place participants
The best photographers of the Deutsches Verband f r Fotografie e.V. (German Association for Photography/DVF) submitted 28 portfolios to the first ever DVF Portfolio Competition 2016. The eight to twelve photographs of each respective photographer (passe-partout 50 x 60 cm) on a self-defined theme were to reflect the photographic style and interpretation of the photographer. The five best photographers will now be distinguished at photokina, and the works of the top three will be prominently exhibited at the trade fair. The exhibition opens and the award ceremony will take place on Saturday, 24 September 2016 at 12:00 p.m.

Exhibition of the winning images of the young talents
The internationally renowned Canon Profifoto F rderpreis (CPFP), which was brought to life at photokina 2006, is this year celebrating its tenth anniversary. On this occasion, photokina is presenting all 100 new talent photo projects honoured since then. A total of several thousand participants have applied for the Canon Profifoto F rderpreis during this time. The increasing internationality of the competition is underlined by submissions from Mongolia, Australia, Ukraine, Finland and Peru. The average age of applicants is 27; around 60 percent are students. Submissions to the photo competition are called for twice a year by Canon and ProfiFoto magazine in collaboration with the picture agency Laif and Whitewall.

Photographs from two years of Blende
Europes largest photo competition Blende receives more than 80,000 image submissions annually. The steadily growing popularity is proof of its great significance. The pictures entered by the Blende photographers are invaluable records of the period in which they were taken. In addition to this, they motivate other people to pick up a camera themselves and capture moments or situations themselves before they pass. For more than 40 years now, Blende has been demonstrating the pure passion and devotion of the participating amateur photographers with its pictures. Their images will also enrich photokina in 2016.

Bride Photo Award 2016, Brautmedia GmbH
The Bride Photo Award 2016 is taking place in the German-speaking world for the first time. It has already taken place successfully in the Netherlands for twelve years. A jury comprised of five experts has nominated the best 80 photos from more than 1,500 submitted wedding photos, which were published for voting at www.brautfotoaward.de and will now be part of the photokina exhibition. The winners will be honoured at the trade fair on 23.09.2016. Wedding photography is the supreme discipline in the field of photography. The demands of the wedding couple are high and the photographer has to make the most of the situation. The Bride Photo Award is initiated by Brautmedia GmbH, the publisher of the Braut & Br utigam (Bride & Bridegroom) magazine.

Deutscher Jugendfotopreis 2016, Deutscher Jugendfotopreis c/o Deutsches Kinder und Jugendfilmzentrum (KJF)
The 40 prize winners aged 7 to 25 years can anticipate awards with a total value of more than 13,000 Euro. The competition is organised by the German Centre for Youth and Childrens Films (KFJ) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The concluding event is sponsored by the Ministry for Youth of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The prize winners demonstrated their creativity in various categories. For the theme Sound in Sight, they imaginatively transformed the audible into images. In the category Next Level, they experimented with the creative possibilities of digital imaging. The youth photographers also convinced the expert jury convened by Federal Minister Manuela Schwesig in the section Free theme choice. Partners of many years of the competition are the Photoindustrie-Verband e.V. and photokina.

The photography project Idea of the Image was brought into being on the initiative of the Chinese online image portal, FengNiao.com. 20 motifs will be presented at photokina in an exceptional way and are meant to enable a global audience artistic access to the understanding of modern China. The photos show people from different professions who shape todays China from perspectives that accentuate the individual characteristics of each profession, while at the same time depicting the development of Chinese society as a whole. After its premiere at photokina,the exhibition will also be shown in Peking in October, among other places.
