The European project 5 G-Media will analyze the impact of the 5G in the audiovisual El consorcio, en el que participan RTVE, Telef nica o la UPM, cuenta con miembros muy activos en el programa europeo 5G PPP H2020 (5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership).
A fin de investigar las posibilidades de interacci n entre el sector audiovisual y las futuras redes 5G con el objetivo de intentar obtener beneficios reales mutuos se ha puesto en marca el proyecto europeo 5G-Media.
Entre las entidades del consorcio se encuentran Radio Televisi n Espa ola Telef nica I+D, la Universidad Polit cnica de Madrid, el University College of London o IBM Israel.
El proyecto ha obtenido financiaci n gracias a la elevada calificaci n obtenida en su evaluaci n por parte de la Comisi n Europea (14,5 puntos sobre 15 totales), lo que demuestra el elevado nivel del mismo y acredita su excelencia en todos los aspectos evaluados.
Hasta el momento, el enfoque que se le ha dado a la investigaci n en 5G se ha centrado en todo aquello que resulta necesario para la evoluci n de las tecnolog as de red (disponibilidad de espectro, acceso radio, SDN, NFV e infraestructura en la nube, control flexible de infraestructuras o desarrollo tanto de sistemas como de operaciones), pero se ha prestado menos atenci n a los servicios y aplicaciones que utilizar n las capacidades avanzadas de la red 5G, tales como los que demanda el sector audiovisual.
Aplicaciones multimedia
En este sentido, 5G-Media pretende llevar a cabo actividades de innovaci n temprana centradas en el sector audiovisual, explorando la utilizaci n de las redes 5G mediante aplicaciones avanzadas que permitan aprovechar los beneficios prometidos con respecto a bajas latencias, elevados anchos de banda o configuraciones flexibles y din micas. No en vano, las aplicaciones multimedia est n entre los servicios m s exigentes y requieren enormes cantidades de capacidad de red para la distribuci n masiva de contenidos audiovisuales con alto ancho de banda, as como latencia extremadamente baja para que la experiencia de usuario sea verdaderamente inmersiva, receptiva y t ctil. Asimismo, existe inter s por estudiar aplicaciones vinculadas directamente con producci n, en particular las relativas a transporte de se al y contribuci n para informativos.
Por parte de RTVE, la Unidad de Gesti n del Centro de Innovaci n se ha ocupado de la interlocuci n con el resto de agentes para la preparaci n y presentaci n de la propuesta de proyecto ante la Comisi n Europea de cara a la obtenci n de financiaci n, mientras que la Direcci n del rea de Emisi n y Redes se encargar directamente de las acciones necesarias contempladas en los paquetes de tareas previstas para la consecuci n de resultados.
