The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will present its 2014 Advocate Award to Jim and Michael Goodmon. Full Frame's Director, Deirdre Haj, presents the Full Frame Advocate Award in recognition of individuals who have supported the documentary medium and the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. The Goodmons will receive this honor at a private event prior to the Opening Night screening of 112 Weddings. The film, directed by Full Frame Advisory Board member Doug Block, is a World Premiere.
Previous recipients of the Advocate Award are Molly Thompson, President of A&E IndieFilms, and longtime Full Frame advisor Wyndham Robertson.
The Advocate Award was created to recognize important individuals who may or may not be directly inside the documentary community, but firmly believe in and meaningfully support both the medium of documentary film and Full Frame. Certainly Jim and Michael have exemplified this with their unwavering commitment to the festival throughout the years, says Haj.
The American Tobacco Campus and Capitol Broadcasting, Inc. have been Leadership Sponsors of Full Frame and sponsors of Full Frame's Opening Night Film for several years. In January of 2013, Michael Goodmon created new offices and a state-of-the-art theater for the festival in the Power Plant building in the American Tobacco Campus. The space includes a flexible classroom area for the festival's education programs, the School of Doc and Teach the Teachers, a conference room, and a gallery space. The entire floor is leased by Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies, of which Full Frame is a program. The American Tobacco Campus was the starting place of Full Frame's expanding free screening series, and serves as the festival's year-round home.
As American Tobacco approaches its 10th anniversary, we're celebrating the assets, inventions, risks and treasures that make Durham one of the most unique and desirable places to live in the country, Michael Goodmon states. Without a doubt, Full Frame tops anyone's list of things that are quintessentially Durham, even as it's become a global resource. We are honored to have played a very small role in its success and look forward to many more years of this cultural powerhouse.
Jim Goodmon is the CEO of Capitol Broadcasting, the chairman of the AJ Fletcher Foundation Board of Directors, Chair Emeritus of Leadership Triangle, and owner of the Durham Bulls. He and his wife, Barbara, are longtime fans and attendees of Full Frame's four-day festival.
Jim's son, Michael, is the vice president of real estate at Capitol Broadcasting. In this capacity, he develops and oversees numerous properties, including Durham's American Tobacco Campus, where Full Frame's offices are located. Michael is also a member of the board of the AJ Fletcher Foundation.
The 17th Annual Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will be held April 3-6, 2014, in Durham, N.C., with Duke University as the presenting sponsor. The complete schedule of films is now available on the Full Frame website, http://www.fullframefest.org.
About Full Frame
The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival is an annual international event dedicated to the theatrical exhibition of nonfiction cinema. Each spring, Full Frame welcomes filmmakers and film lovers from around the world to historic downtown Durham, N.C., for a four-day, morning to midnight array of over 100 films, as well as discussions, panels, and southern hospitality. Set within a four-block radius, the intimate festival landscape fosters community and conversation between filmmakers, film professionals, and the general public. The 2013 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival yielded $2,375,000 for Durham's local economy. Full Frame also promotes the festival's mission throughout the year by presenting documentary work in the Full Frame Theater and other venues both locally and nationally.
The Festival is a program of the Center for Documentary Studies (a nonprofit 501c3), and receives support from corporate sponsors, private foundations, and individual donors whose generosity provides the foundation that makes the event possible.
