The Making of Frozen Hot Boys': Real Training, Real Sculpting and Real National Champion Coaching

After Frozen Hot Boys delivered an inspiring underdog story about a group of fiery youths from a juvenile detention center in a country with no snow - competing for glory at an international snow sculpting competition - the film quickly resonated with audiences. Inspired by the real-life success of Thai teams who have repeatedly brought home global snow sculpting honors, the film offers a perfect blend of humor, emotion, and excitement.
Today, well take you behind the scenes of Frozen Hot Boys to reveal the craft and dedication that went into creating the film. With maximum effort and minimal expectations, the cast and crew underwent rigorous training sessions, shot authentic scenes, and engaged in conversations with the real people who inspired these characters to deliver the most realistic story possible.
Rubbing shoulders with real snow sculpture champions
To make Frozen Hot Boys as close to the real deal as possible, the cast trained under the actual coach who led multiple world championship wins by Thai vocational youth teams. The actors learned everything from scratch: how to handle the tools, sketch outlines, and carve ice into detailed sculptures. By the end of the workshop, they could sculpt real pieces themselves. In a particularly nifty touch, you can also spot the two real Thai teams that won the 2024 and 2025 Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Competitions, appearing as on-screen competitors.
Production team takes on Japan
The teams dedication shone through in their bold decision to shoot on location in Japan, capturing the authentic charm of snowy Sapporo. From freezing temperatures to unpredictable weather and unfamiliar terrain, the production faced no shortage of challenges, yet every moment - from landing scenes at Sapporo Airport to the team buzzing around the city - was crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The cast and crew pushed through, determined to deliver realism on screen, and their efforts paid off - every frame transports viewers into the magical beauty of wintry Japan.
Real conversations with youth center personnel
The authenticity of this film also extends to the emotional depth of the characters in the detention center. The directors and actors spent time in actual facilities, participating in activities and conversations with the young residents, trainers, and staff. This immersive experience helped them deeply understand the background, identity, and essence of each character - ultimately delivering an authentic emotional journey for these youngsters seeking second chances as well as the dedicated mentors guiding them.
