University-industry cooperation boosts technological investment

Recently, Ningbo Yongjia Electronic Technology Co. Ltd made primarily confirmation with Sichuan University and UESTC on the design plan of automatic production line for automatic detection, classification and packing of encoders. The company also invited experts from the universities to make field trip in the company so as to facilitate the implementation of the plan. Nowadays more and more enterprises are taking advantage of the R&D ability of the universities to promote their technologic innovation like this.

Since this year, the government of Cixi has helped enterprises to solve a series of technologic problems by guiding them to actively participate in technology investment promotion activities in and out of the city and by promoting the transformation of science and technology products through cooperation between companies and universities. According to the City Science and Technology Bureau, 12 cooperation projects have been approved in Ningbo this year, with a total sum of 21.88 million Yuan, growing year-on-year of respectively 71.4% and 367.5%, and 15 projects have been applied with a total contract amount rising from 9.624 million last year to 22.47 million Yuan.

An official in Science and Technology Bureau reveals that in the past enterprises are unwilling to take part in such cooperation, but nowadays with the increasing social awareness for scientific and technologic cooperation, the enterprises start to take the initiative and participate in technology investment promotion activities with a much more proactive stance. On the Ninth Exchanging Conference of Independent Innovation, Special Fair on Automatic Improvement of Production Equipment and Symposium of Scientific and Technologic Achievements of Three Northeast Universities held in Ningbo, the actual number of attendance is far more than the number of application, making tickets very hard to get.

To implement independent innovation and technologic innovation, an entrepreneur needs to firstly innovate his brain' , an enterprise executive told the reporter. On the three science and technology symposiums held by Ningbo government this year, more than 60% of the attendance are presidents or general managers of the companies. In the technology investment promotion activities held in Southwest China last month, 9 of the 11 companies are presented by their main leaders. Many entrepreneurs concede that there will be no more space for their companies to further develop without technologic cooperation and innovation.

The technology investment promotion activities have brought the companies a lot of benefits. Last year Changhe Town organized some companies to attend the Science and Technology Fair in Zhejiang University, after which two of them signed project developing contracts worth about 2 million Yuan with the University. This year the companies went to Zhejiang University of Technology to attend science and technology exchanging activities, during which the problem of "machine substitute man"- the improvement of automatic equipment was solved. Companies in Kuangyan Town also went to the University to attend science and technology cooperation activities, and have achieved initial intent of cooperation in innovation on lean production management, design and manufacture of robots, design of special electrical machine and high-accuracy mould manufacture. Ningbo Jianan electronics co. ltd also solved its problem in Power Line Communication after communicating with professors from UESTC.
