The Flow and AirFlow product lends itself absolutely perfectly to what we do anywhere in the world, and that type of flexibility really is our bread and butter of TV. Zach Willis is the co-founder and producer of Ka-boom - Northern Ireland's leading post production facility. With the facility and projects expanding, we had to scale our technology to meet client needs as well as give our team a way to better collaborate, Zach explains. With the capabilities of the Flow and AirFlow, producers and clients can be located anywhere in the world and review media, storyboards and collaborate with editors, colourists and other staff back at the facility. EditShare means that all assets and relative metadata are tracked, making searching and retrieving media fast and efficient, even for rushes stored on tapes. AirFlow provides secured remote access to content with tools to facilitate editorial review and approval from anywhere in the world.
What that means in practice for the Ka-boom teams producing Wanted Down Under' and Holding Back the Years' for BBC Daytime, Celebs on Solitary', for Channel 5 and Counsel' for Lacada Entertainment amongst many other popular shows and documentaries is, explains Zach, they can search for that shot that they always wanted to use but didn't because it would have taken them half a day to find it in all the different backup drives or LTO Tapes. With Flow, they can find it in seconds and that's been big. Our clients love this.
This cutting-edge technology has clearly had a huge impact on Ka-boom who are already reaping the rewards of their investment. In order to keep up with demand, Specialist AV needed centralised storage, additional ingest capability and an asset management system which would allow them to manage archive and share it with clients.
Specialist AV asked and Tyrell delivered a solution to meet all their needs. XStream EFS 200, Geevs HDP2/2 Broadcast Server and Flow Media asset management was brought in. Geevs now provides 4 channels of SD or HD I/O enabling multiple ingest of files at the same time and Flow allows them to expand the services they offer by being able to monetise holding material for clients. It also gives them the tools to store and locate material more efficiently and the facilities to share it with clients in a simple, no-fuss way.
By bringing in Tyrell and their EditShare solution we have managed to completely transform working practices and really optimise our expertise and our output. The service we received from Tyrell was second to none and the feedback from production teams and customers has been fantastic.
