WRALs Holiday Traditions Continue Again This Year

Plans include the 44th Year of Televising the Raleigh Christmas Parade

For decades, WRAL has been THE station for live coverage of major holiday events across the community, and this year will be no different.

On November 18th, the 2017 Raleigh Christmas Parade, a WRAL holiday tradition for 44 years, will be broadcast to families across the region. Bill Leslie, Renee Chou and the WRAL team will be on the streets of downtown Raleigh capturing the sights and sounds of this joyous celebration. For generations, WRAL has played a big part in our communitys celebration of the holiday season. said Vice President and General Manager of WRAL-TV and FOX 50, Steven D. Hammel. I am proud to say that the efforts of the WRAL team will ensure that the tradition continues again this year.

December 1st, the WRAL Tower Lighting will illuminate our sky with the tallest Christmas light display in the region for the 59th year. The switch to light the tower will be thrown in the 6:00PM newscast and remain illuminated in the evenings into the beginning of the new year. That same evening hundreds more colorful lights will light the sky in Durham as American Tobacco Campus lights up the water tower for the 13th year.

The 29th Annual Coats for the Children Telethon on December 8th will raise money to buy new, warm winter clothing for children in need. The telethon appears in WRAL programming and operators will accept pledges throughout the day from 6:00AM to 7:30PM. Since 1989, WRAL-TV has collected more than 150,000 coats and raised nearly $2,000,000 to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families.

First Night Raleigh, sponsored by WRAL, would not be the same without WRAL Newss live coverage of the family friendly festivities from downtown Raleigh. More than 2 hours of coverage will culminate with the Acorn Drop bringing in the new year.
