A family run business with a workforce of more than 30 employees, Duffield Printers specialises in commercial printing, boasting an integrated production environment housing both conventional and digital presses.
On the lookout for an advanced but easy-to-use product to replace its incumbent outdated software, Fujifilm's XMF Workflow impressed Jon McGill, pre-press manager at Duffield, with its automated features and extensive range of functions. Efficient management of production tasks such as pre-flighting, imposition, trapping, colour management, proofing and output to different devices is crucial to be profitable, explains Jon. He continues: XMF Workflow is a comprehensive pre-press production suite which guarantees that we meet these goals.
Alongside XMF Workflow, Duffield Printers implemented XMF Remote v9, the online job submission and approval module that helps printers and their clients to manage the supply of print work into production. XMF Remote's online job previews are generated from RIPped data so that customers can view jobs exactly as they will appear when printed.
The introduction of XMF Remote has set new standards at Duffield Printers, significantly reducing turn-around times. Jon explains: The move from a conventional proofing system to a remote platform has brought a wealth of advantages. Together with automation, we've dramatically improved the communication with clients and have been able to put in place a more cost-effective process. He adds: The XMF production suite perfectly integrates with our digital and offset equipment and, being template driven, it's intuitive and allows less room for error. Today, we're proud to have a fully functional, advanced workflow.
Duffield Printers is also particularly pleased with the service offered by Fujifilm. Customers are demanding more flexibility in terms of service and delivery times. In turn, we expect the same flexibility from our suppliers, and Fujifilm has met our requirements every time; the technical and sales teams are extremely knowledgeable and give us prompt support, emphasises Jon.
To make the XMF installation even more successful, Duffield Printers decided to introduce another change in the pre-press department with the adoption of Fujifilm's Brillia HD LH-PJE lo-chem plates. The need for more consistent results and sustainable solutions once again pushed the company in the direction of Fujifilm, who, with the introduction of the plates, has helped Duffield Printers to save money on chemicals and reduce waste.
We can only be positive about our relationship with Fujifilm and the impact that its products have had on our business, concludes Jon. Not only have we modernised our pre-press department and simplified the production and approval procedures through XMF Workflow and XMF Remote, but we've also doubled our efficiency and been introduced to other advanced products such as Brillia HD LH-PJE plates.
