Noel Curran, nuevo director general de la UER El sustituto de Ingrid Deltenre fue director general, director ejecutivo de Televisi n y editor de Actualidad de la irlandesa RT .
A partir del pr ximo mes de septiembre el irland s Noel Curran suceder a Ingrid Deltenre en la direcci n general de la Uni n Europea de Radiodifusi n (UER).
Curran fue director general, director ejecutivo de Televisi n y editor de Actualidad de RT , la emisora nacional de radio y televisi n de Irlanda. Como director general, llev a cabo una profunda reestructuraci n de RT tras la crisis financiera que comenz a finales de 2008, y convirti con acierto a RT en una s lida organizaci n de medios digitales. Noel Curran, firme defensor de los medios de comunicaci n p blicos desde hace mucho tiempo, tambi n es un galardonado periodista de investigaci n y productor.
Jean-Paul Philippot, presidente de la UER (RTBF/BE) ha destacado que Noel fue el candidato elegido de una lista de candidatos sumamente fuertes. Nos impresion con sus s lidos valores de servicio p blico, su experiencia operativa y su conocimiento del ecosistema de los medios de comunicaci n p blicos en el actual entorno medi tico que tan r pido evoluciona. Su experiencia directiva como director general de RT tendr un valor incalculable conforme la UER se adentre en el pr ximo cap tulo de su historia. Tengo la certeza de que desempe ar una muy buena labor para la UER, para todos nuestros Miembros y para los medios de comunicaci n p blicos .
Noel Curran reconoce que ahora m s que nunca existen razones de peso para mostrar qu hacen los medios de comunicaci n p blicos, y qu hacen los Miembros de la Uni n Europea de Radiodifusi n, un d a tras otro. La UER representa a algunas de las mejores organizaciones de medios de comunicaci n, creadores de contenidos y periodistas del mundo. El cargo de director general representa un enorme honor, y trabajar con los Miembros para aprovechar cualquier oportunidad y sacar adelante los cambios necesarios para garantizar el futuro de los medios de comunicaci n p blicos. Estoy impaciente por trabajar con Jean-Paul, con el equipo de la UER y con nuestros Miembros, de todas las regiones de la UER, para atender las necesidades de nuestras audiencias .
Curran sustituye a Ingrid Deltenre, que ha dirigido la UER desde 2010 y ha decidido dejar el cargo este a o para centrarse en sus responsabilidades en el Consejo.
Larga carrera en televisi n
El ejecutivo estudi en el Trinity College de Dubl n y se gradu por la Universidad de Dubl n tanto en Estudios europeos como en Comunicaci n, especializ ndose en pol tica nacional e internacional de radiodifusi n. Antes de convertirse en director general de RT en 2010, ocup el cargo de director ejecutivo de RT Television. Noel, que fue responsable de cuatro servicios de televisi n, nueve servicios de radio y los principales productos de medios digitales de Irlanda, dirigi RT en una poca dif cil de crisis editorial y financiera, aunque devolvi a la organizaci n a la senda del super vit econ mico y abog por recuperar un periodismo de investigaci n laureado. Mediante la supervisi n de las secciones de intercambio comercial m s significativas de RT , situ a la emisora en posici n de acometer la transformaci n digital a pesar de las graves restricciones financieras. Como editor y productor, la programaci n de Noel gan numerosos premios de periodismo, y l fue productor ejecutivo de una serie de eventos televisivos en directo, entre ellos el Festival de Eurovisi n de 1997, la cobertura de elecciones generales, programas de entretenimiento en directo y programaci n factual. Es profesor adjunto de Periodismo en la Universidad de Dubl n.
Noel est casado con la cantante y antigua ganadora del Festival de Eurovisi n, Eimear Quinn, con la que ha tenido dos hijas.
