Tonight Show host and vintage car enthusiast Jay Leno recently found himself at Austin's Circuit of the Americas (COTA) behind the wheel of a McLaren 12C as part of a special track experience organized by the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team and Mobil 1. The event was documented by Austin's Omega Broadcast Group, whose crew brought five Panasonic AJ-HPX3100 2/3-inch P2 HD camcorders with Fujinon 66x and 42x lenses to capture the track action.

Leno visited COTA to tape segments for his website, JayLenosGarage.com, exactly one month prior to this year's Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. The three-day international sports and entertainment spectacle will be held Nov. 15-17 at COTA's new, 1,500-acre facility, with this penultimate race of the 2013 F1 season taking place on Sunday, Nov. 17. COTA is the only racetrack in the U.S. built to host Formula 1 racing.
The video shot by Omega Broadcast (see an excerpt here, http://www.omegabroadcast.com/fmp/omega-news-detail.php?&-recid=341) was distributed to news outlets across Texas and beyond. The footage can also be seen on COTA's own web site, www.circuitoftheamericas.com.
The HPX3100 was the ideal camera to strategically position around COTA's 3.4-mile circuit, said David Fry, Vice President, Omega Broadcast Group. The camera delivers master-quality, native 1080p resolution with the AVC-Intra codec. Because it's 2/3-inch, it could handle the big optics we required for the shoot. And the speed of the P2 workflow enabled rapid-fire deliverables to news organizations.
The AJ-HPX3100 compact, lightweight 2/3 P2 HD shoulder-mount camcorder features three 2/3 high density 2.2 million pixel CCDs. The HPX3100 acquires full-raster 1920 x 1080 resolution imaging with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling using the advanced AVC-Intra codec. Offering a compact size for added mobility, the two P2 slot camcorder records in multiple worldwide formats, in HD in AVC-Intra and in DVCPRO HD at 1080 in 24p, 25p, 30p, 50i and 60i, and in SD (480i/586i) in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV. Designed for scripted programming, documentary, nature, cinema and commercial production, the master-quality HPX3100 offers valuable features including 24-bit audio in AVC-Intra 100/50, wireless metadata input capability via wireless LAN, and a high-quality proxy recording (option).
