Partner of murdered Rachael Slack speaks to Daybreak as review into her death is released

Robert Barlow - the partner of murdered Rachael Slack at the time of her death - spoke to ITV's Daybreak today on the day that a review into the case of her killing is released.

Speaking to Aled Jones and Lorraine Kelly, Robert said that things need to change to avoid this sad story being repeated: Simply there's more that could have been done, there's more to do things have got to change, structures have got to change, everybody has got to learn to communicate, share the information through the professional bodies. There's too much fracture between the Police and the mental health [authorities] and the carers that basically the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

The family believe they were failed in the run up to Rachael's death as information about the severity of killer Andrew Cairns' threats weren't relayed to them: The information was there, it's just the professionals didn't have all the information at one given time for them to act accordingly and make a life changing decision.

On how he is coping with the tragic loss, Robert said: I have to think past myself, it's about making changes. There's no point me barking on about how sad it is, how it's changed my life, everybody's life. It goes without saying it's left a massive hole in the family s life. We need changes, that's what I've got to focus on.
