KELLY SLATER WINS THE BILLABONG PIPE MASTERS IN MEMORY OF ANDY IRONS

North Shore Oahu, Hawaii (December 15, 2013) - Quiksilvers Kelly Slater has won this years Billabong Pipe Masters, his seventh Pipe Masters win. With incredible 15-foot waves at Pipeline, Slater, 41, walked away with the championship crown and scored a perfect 10 in one of the final heats. He continues to be a threat in the surfing category and is currently both the youngest and oldest Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Champion.

Today was one of the most special days in my life. Its a day I have dreamed about since I was a little kid - big, perfect, West-angled Pipeline and a showdown at the Pipe Masters. If I had stepped away from the sport five years ago, I wouldnt have had today. I want more days like this so Im definitely back next year, said Slater.

The drive and determination that Kelly exhibits as a competitive athlete never ceases to amaze me, said Bob McKnight, Executive Chairman, Quiksilver. Weve watched him capture countless achievements in professional surfing over the past two decades, and we congratulate him today as he wins the Billabong Pipe Masters.

Todays win for Slater caps a hard fought season of back and forth battle for World Title rankings between Slater and Mick Fanning (32, AUS). The two entered into the final contest of the year at Pipeline, with each surfing for an opportunity to clinch this years world title. Slater showed impressive form and ultimately won the Pipe Masters.

Slaters admirable journey in the 2013 season included victories at the Gold Coast Quiksilver Pro and the Volcom Fiji Pro. He also claimed a runner-up finish at the Tahiti Pro. Kelly won his ASP World Championships in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2011. His career victories also include 56 WCT wins and two ESPN X Games gold medals making him the greatest athlete the sport has ever produced.
