Creating a Beautiful Malaysia with Astro Kasih in Sabah

An attempt to set a new Guinness World Records title for the

Longest Underwater Clean up

Kota Kinabalu, 23rd January 2013 Astro Kasih returns to Sabah with another Beautiful Malaysia Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) environmental programme, as part of its ongoing commitment in promoting ecotourism among Malaysians. This year, Astro Kasih hopes to create greater awareness on marine conservation by aiming to set the Guinness World Records title for the Longest Underwater Clean Up at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Astro Kasih is inviting qualified divers to volunteer and participate in this attempt, which will be held from 6th 13th April, 2013.

Since 2009, Astro Kasih together with its employees have been actively involved in various CSR efforts in Sabah, which include the building of school hostels for students in Kota Marudu, partnering with teachers in implementing intensive UPSR revision programmes for students in SK Magandai, repairing living amenities and infrastructures for the villagers of Nunuyan Laut Island, equipping underprivileged centres with mini libraries for the children, as well as coral transplanting in Mabul Island.

Conservation at a community level is absolutely important in order for us to preserve our environment for our future generations. Astro Kasih, our CSR arm has enabled the company and our employees to focus on giving back to the community and preserving the environment for a Beautiful Malaysia said Mr Fuaad Kenali, Chief Financial Officer of Astro.

In 2011, Astro Kasih's Beautiful Malaysia CSR programme transplanted 777 individual corals at the Ribbon Reef, Tun Sakaran Marine Park in Sabah. The programme was a huge success as it broke the Malaysia Book of Records, eclipsing the previous record holder of 501 transplanted individual corals. Following the success, Astro Kasih hopes to continue to make a difference and is on a mission to educate Malaysians on the importance of creating a Beautiful Malaysia by setting a new Guinness World Records title this year for the Longest Underwater Clean Up.

This year, we hope to continue to generate more awareness on preserving our natural beauty and encouraged all individuals to do their part and make a difference. It's truly encouraging to see our very own employees, talents and even channel partners like the National Geographic Channel and Discovery Channel pledge to support this cause he added.

Marco Frigatti, Head of Records at Guinness World Records said This is brand new Guinness World Records title. In order for the new world record to be achieved we have set a minimum of 168 hours, which is one full week, of continuous clean-up activity. We wish Astro and all those divers taking part in the clean-up the very best in their forthcoming world record attempt.

With the support of the Sabah State Government, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and together with the Sabah Journalist Association, Astro Kasih invites certified divers to take part in this 168 consecutive hour, 7-day underwater clean-up from 6th 13th April, 2013 at 14 dive sites surrounding Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Families can also participate in the Astro Kasih's Marine Conservation Day on 13th April (Saturday) from 6.30am till 4.30 pm at the Taman Awam Teluk Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The event is open to the public for free and there will be lots of fun and learning activities on marine conservation. These include various workshops and talks on Marine Conservation, beach cleaning, colouring and painting contest, sand sculpture competition, snorkeling & scuba diving lessons for the underprivileged, cooking competitions for the public and cooking demos by celebrity chefs, beach telematches, mini concert and many more.
