Matthew Goldman and Thomas Bause Mason of SMPTE to Present IP-Focused Sessions at SET Expo 2018

SMPTE Sessions Will Include Master Class on Broadcast Migration to All-IP and Offer an Update on SMPTE Activities and Standards

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Aug. 23, 2018 - SMPTE , the organization whose standards work has supported a century of advances in entertainment technology and whose membership spans the globe, today announced its participation at SET Expo 2018, which runs Aug. 27-30 in S o Paulo, Brazil. SMPTE President Matthew Goldman, who is also senior vice president of technology at MediaKind (formerly known as Ericsson Media Solutions), and SMPTE Director of Standards Thomas Bause Mason will present at sessions on behalf of the Society.

As Latin Americas largest tech event for media and entertainment, SET Expo consistently draws an impressive number and array of innovators, thought leaders, creatives, and technology professionals, said Goldman. The congress program provides attendees with valuable opportunities to discuss the trends and technologies shaping the future of content creation, consumption modes and models, and the commercial applications. SMPTE is proud to be a partner of SET Expo and a contributor to what surely will be an exceptional program.

Goldman and Bause Mason are scheduled to speak at SET Expo on Monday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m., presenting a SMPTE session that will include the Broadcast Migration to All-IP Master Class. The master class will provide a comprehensive overview of the reasons that broadcasters should migrate to all-IP and details about SMPTE ST 2110 Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks, ST 2059 Broadcast Profile for IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), and Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA) Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS). Bause Masons presentation will be SMPTEs Road to the Future and will provide an update on the evolving media industry and how SMPTE is adapting to produce the standards and specifications for the next-generation media industry.

Goldman will also participate in a session on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 11:30 a.m. titled Upgrade of Video, HDR and 8K Broadcast Lenses, where he will present an update on the state of high-dynamic-range (HDR) video and an explanation of mixing HDR and standard dynamic-range content using live (inverse) tone-mapping techniques.
