Viewership for Cavs/Knicks Telecast Up 50% Over 2013
NBA Thursday Doubleheader Viewership Up 54% Over Network's Regular Season Telecasts Last Year
TNT's exclusive NBA Opening Week telecast featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James' homecoming game against the New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony averaged four million total viewers, an increase of 50% over the comparable telecast window last season. The corresponding 2.6 U.S. HH rating is up 44% over last year (Chicago/New York - 1.8 U.S. HH rating; 2,643,000 million total viewers).
Last night's Knicks/Cavs telecast is up 117% in U.S. HH rating and 111% among total viewers compared with TNT's average audience for an NBA regular season game last year (1.2 U.S. HH rating; 1,870,000 total viewers). The telecast - peaking with a 2.9 U.S. HH rating and 4.5 million total viewers from 10:30-10:45 p.m. - earned a 27.2 metered market rating in Cleveland and a 7.0 local rating in New York.
The Knicks/Cavs telecast also registered significant growth across all key demos including a 56% increase in People 18-49 and a 60% improvement among Men 18-49 over the same telecast window in 2013. Last night's game is up 116% among People 18-49 and 122% in Men 18-49 over TNT's average demos for the NBA regular season last year.
Overall, the network's NBA Thursday doubleheader - also featuring the Los Angeles Clippers hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder - averaged 2.9 million total viewers and a 1.9 U.S. HH rating, up 21% and 19% respectively over the comparable doubleheader last season. Last night's doubleheader is up 54% in total viewers and 58% among U.S. HH rating over last year's NBA on TNT regular season coverage.
TNT's NBA regular season coverage will continue with doubleheader action on Thursday, Nov. 6, when the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan visit the Houston Rockets and James Harden at 8 p.m., followed by the Portland Trail Blazers and Damian Lillard hosting the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki at 10:30 p.m.
