J-Wave to the World: Netflix Teams up with TBS Holdings' THE SEVEN to Make Live-Action Hits

Today we're delighted to enter a strategic partnership with THE SEVEN, a cutting edge production company owned by TBS Holdings (Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings, Inc), one of Japan's top media companies. Over the next five years, THE SEVEN will produce multiple original live-action titles that will be exclusively available to Netflix members across 190 countries.

We are no stranger to THE SEVEN's roster of big-name creators. Akira Morii, who has partnered with us to produce both seasons of the successful Alice in Borderland series and is now working with us on Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Yu Yu Hakusho , leads development and production efforts at THE SEVEN, while leading visual effects producer Tomofumi Akahane ( Assassination Classroom , The Confidence Man JP , Yu Yu Hakusho ) will bring fantastical and out-of-this-world stories to screen.

This collaboration further deepens our relationship with TBS, whose popular drama series are already being streamed on Netflix. THE SEVEN will also have access to an expansive new studio lot of almost 1000 square meters, slated to be one of the largest and most advanced soundstages of its kind in Japan when completed next year, ensuring best-in-class quality for Netflix productions.

THE SEVEN aims to tell stories from Japan in new ways, unbound by traditional creative limitations. Our partnership gives them the scale in production and budget, the creative freedom, and the reach to share their groundbreaking showstoppers with the world.

If Alice in Borderland , which returns for a highly anticipated second season next month, is anything to go by, we know what we can expect of the films and series to come - big, spectacular, complete with dazzling visual effects.
