The Sports Video Group (SVG)'s yearly main event is being rebranded as the SVG Summit and expanded to two full days, December 16-17, 2013, in order to better reflect the use of video and audio in an ever-growing range of professional disciplines.
This year's Summit has been rebranded to reflect the changing nature of today's sports broadcast and production industry, explained Tom Sahara, SVG Chairman and Turner Sports VP Operations and Technology. During the year SVG events in the US and Europe cover a wide range of topics, from college and venue video to asset management, to post production, and audio. But the SVG Summit is the one time of year when the entire community can come together and learn about the business challenges of the new technologies that are expanding the reach of our content, putting new demands on our operations and, ultimately, enriching today's sports fan experience.
For the seventh consecutive year, the event will be held at the New York Hilton, located at 1335 Avenue of the Americas). The event begins with a series of workshop sessions on the morning of Dec. 16 and continues that afternoon with the main event in the Trianon Ballroom, more than 60 exhibits in the Mercury Ballroom, and breakout sessions on a wide range of topics.
The main track in the Trianon Ballroom will be focused squarely on the core sports production community that is responsible for creating the live event coverage of the world's most popular sporting events and leagues that is seen daily via broadcast, broadband, and cellular services. Highlights include:
The Future of Remote Production
Big Data, Big Graphics: The Constant Evolution of Analysis Tools
New Facility Case Studies: NBC, ESPN, Fox Sports 1
Getting Social: What does it Mean to Broadcast Operations
Regional Sports: The New Growth Market
First-Rate Techniques for Second-Screen Storytelling
Producing and Directing Football, Baseball, and Basketball
The main event in the Trianon Ballroom will be complemented by a number of breakout sessions on both Monday and Tuesday that will focus on other market segments. They include:
DTV Audio: The broadcast industry's leading gathering for serious audio professionals.
Asset Management: Sports league and network technology experts discuss the latest challenges facing those responsible for preserving the legacy of their companies and creating ways to monetize those assets.
Post Production: Learn about the latest techniques and newest tools in sports graphics creation and editing.
Venue and Facility System Integration: Those who help shape the fan experience at the event via video and audio discuss the newest buildings, design trends, and how to create a better in-venue experience.
The goal of the breakouts is to give core SVG audiences a chance to add to expand their career development and also have a chance to sit in on other industry segments, gaining valuable exposure to new career opportunities and techniques, explains Ken Kerschbaumer, SVG, Executive Director, Editorial Services.
And finally, the SVG Summit will once again showcase more than 60 companies that will demonstrate their latest sports technologies, tools and services. The two days of activities will also culminate in the induction of the 2013 Class of the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. All proceeds from ticket and table sales for the Hall of Fame ceremony support the Sports Broadcasting Fund that helps sports broadcasting professionals in times of crisis.
Registration for the SVG Summit opens on October 1.
