Okay, so we know that the legislation regarding dagga is a little up in the air at the moment. But if you get caught trying to smuggle R1 million's worth of the green stuff from province to province, we're afraid you haven't got a leg to stand on.

The current laws about blazing up in South Africa are hazy, but there are a few that come with clarity: Smoking weed at home is fine, you're allowed to grow your own as long as you don't sell it on, and you can be in possession of dagga as long as it's a quantity small enough for personal use .

Dagga for personal use ? This ain't it According to the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992, anything under 115 grams can be successfully argued as being possessed for personal use. However, the government will be required to neaten up this law, explaining clearly what you should - and shouldn't - be in possession of.

We've done the maths here, and being in possession of 18 massive black bags full of marijuana doesn't quite match the definition of personal use. A general rule of thumb is this: If Snoop Dogg couldn't finish it all in one sitting, you've got way too much on your hands.

(Supplied / Hawks) Hawks celebrate bust Captain Philani Nkwalase is a spokesperson for the team: This move was part of a directive to help crush domestic smuggling, and they've secured a massive victory in the fight against crime by seizing R965 000 worth of gear:

A Hawks-led multi-disciplinary operation that included crime intelligence, Eden cluster combating team and the Provincial traffic officials arrested two suspects during the early hours of Monday morning on their quest to clamp down on an illicit drug trafficking set-up between the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces.

The team acted on information about a large consignment of dagga that was on transit to George. Two suspects, aged 35 and 42 were intercepted and arrested on the Knysna main road (N2) and they were found with 18 bags of dagga valued around R965 000. The suspects' vehicle as well as all dagga bags we seized for further investigation.

Captain Philani Nkwalase South Africa's answer to El Chapo (El Cape-os, perhaps?) will both be on the stand at Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning. They are set to be charged with the possession of dagga in excessive quantities.
