Telecinco Media Holdings, a well-established media company in Puerto Rico with over 65 years of broadcasting experience, has chosen Rohde & Schwarz as a key technological partner to modernize the broadcast distribution of its Mayag ez-based WORA-TV station. Telecinco was the first television station on the island's western coast and has developed numerous affiliations with larger networks over the years.
Given Puerto Rico s high energy costs, Telecinco sought a highly efficient, state-of-the-art transmitter for WORA-TV. Equally important, the company wanted a partner that could offer both technological innovation and long-term stability. To meet these needs, Telecinco selected the energy-efficient THU9evo liquid-cooled transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz, a high-powered transmitter equipped with 24 amplifiers (37kW) which significantly reduces operational costs while enhancing reliability.

Rohde & Schwarz also provided a meticulous site survey, including a 3D interactive blueprint, helping optimize the efficiency of the new transmitter. The estimated savings suggest that the system will pay for itself within approximately seven years.
Additionally, Erik Balladares, Vice President of Broadcast Sales at Rohde & Schwarz, emphasized the reliability of the system, stating, The THU9evo as well as the TE1 transmitter models are built to last beyond a decade, ensuring consistent uptime and energy savings for Telecinco Media.
Alesandro Annoni, Account Manager at Rohde & Schwarz, emphasized that TV transmitters are crucial investments for broadcasters as they must operate continuously, year-round. The high-quality standards of Rohde & Schwarz make the company a global leader and its transmitters are especially valued in regions facing severe weather challenges, like hurricanes. Rohde & Schwarz also offers service level agreements with quick delivery of essential components, providing unmatched support beyond traditional warranties.
Telecinco Media s engineering team performed extensive research, consulting with broadcast engineers and manufacturers at trade shows. By April 2024, prior to the NAB Show, Telecinco selected the Rohde & Schwarz transmitter due to its energy efficiency, ATSC 3.0 readiness, and product durability. Installation of the new UHF transmitter began in early December 2024 and was completed in about a week. This upgrade allows WORA-TV to expand its audience reach while reducing operational costs.
