ales announces service entry of TETRA network on Line of Santo Domingo Metro

Critical Communications World Paris, France Thales announces the entry of the TETRA* network into operational service on Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro, inaugurated on 1 April 2013 at a ceremony attended by Danilo Medina, President of the Dominican Republic.

Fourteen stations are now open and the new line carries approximately 50,000 passengers a day. It connects to Line 1 (north-south), which is already equipped with Thales systems.

Thales has equipped 14 radio sites on Line 2, which crosses the city from east to west, each of which is equipped with transceivers to relay communications between stations, tunnels and the command post. Thales has also deployed a dedicated control post for monitoring communications along the entire length of Line 2.

For the equipment part of the contract, Thales supplied the fixed terminals for the driver consoles of the metro trains as well as ruggedised mobile terminals for security agents, cleaning and maintenance staff.

The network enables users to create dedicated workgroups as well as dynamic groups managed by the control post in the event of an incident or crisis. The TETRA network provides radio coverage of all stations and tunnels and links them with the command post. System availability is guaranteed by equipment redundancy and radio coverage redundancy to meet the availability requirements that are mandatory for public transport systems.

Following the entry into service of Line 1 on 1 January 2009, we are proud to be part of this latest phase of the project, which is a perfect illustration of Thaless know-how in secure, resilient communication networks, said Jean-Michel Lagarde, Deputy SVP in charge of Secure Communications and Information Systems activities. After the network delivered for SNCF Trancilien in France, the Santo Domingo Metro is another key reference for Thales in TETRA network deployment for the public transport sector.

*Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) (formerly known as Trans-European Trunked Radio) is a professional mobile radio and two-way transceiver specification. TETRA was specifically designed for use by government agencies, emergency services, (police forces, fire departments, ambulance) for public safety networks, rail transportation staff for train radios, transport services and the military.
