(Antarktis, 6. februar 2024) Det er en historisk begivenhet n r Telenor pner verdens s rligste basestasjon i Antarktis. Basestasjonen i Antarktis er verdens s rligste, og den driftes fra verdens nordligste p Svalbard.
Den norske forskningsstasjonen Troll i Antarktis har n f tt en utstrakt dekning i omr det rundt forskningsstasjonen. Troll er det sentrale navet i et internasjonalt forskningssamarbeid som skal komme verdenssamfunnet til gode.
I februar ble basestasjonen satt i drift, og omr det rundt Troll forskningsstasjon er koblet til omverden. Det spesielle med denne basestasjon, foruten at den er verdens s rligste kommersielle, er at den driftes av Telenor Svalbard, som ogs har ansvaret for drifte verdens nordligste basestasjon i Ny- lesund.
Erfaring med drift i polare str kLeder for Telenor Svalbard, Christian Skottun, vektlegger at godt samarbeid med Norsk Polarinstitutt ligger til grunn for opprettelse av mobildekning i Antarktis.
- Det har v rt en god dialog med Norsk Polarinstitutt om mulighetene en basestasjon i Antarktis gir. Telenor har gjennom sin tilstedev relse p Svalbard lang god erfaring med bygge og drifte mobilnett i arktiske str k. For de to arktiske polaromr dene er det avgj rende med mobildekning. For forskningsmilj ene er det s rlig attraktivt kunne ta i bruk mobilteknologi i innhentingen av data fra feltarbeid. Mobildekning gir dessuten nye muligheter for forskning og milj overv king i Antarktis.
For annen ferdsel i polare str k gir det ogs en ny trygghetsdimensjon at det n er mobildekning rundt de polare forskningsstasjonene.
- Mobildekning er et steg fremover for teknologiutviklinga p Troll. I tillegg gir det nye muligheter innen forskning og overv king i Dronning Maud Land, sier Polarinstituttets direkt r, Camilla Brekke.
Tett samarbeid satellittoperat rTelenor Svalbard har i tillegg til tett samarbeid med Norsk Polarinstitutt ogs samarbeid med Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), som er ansvarlig for selve kommunikasjonstjenesten ut fra Troll- stasjonen. KSAT eier og driver TrollSat, en av verdens viktigste bakkestasjoner for innsamling av data fra blant annet klima- og milj overv kingssatellitter, som er samlokalisert med forskningsstasjonen p Troll. KSAT er ansvarlig for at satellittbasert informasjon blir sendt ut fra Troll til brukere over hele verden.
- Full mobildekning p Troll hjelper ogs v re brukere og det forenkler kommunikasjonen med omverdenen. Vi er derfor glade for at satellitt-linken utfra Troll ogs kan bli benyttet til mobil telefontrafikk, sier Rolf Skatteboe, administrerende direkt r i KSAT.
Nye muligheter innen forskningBirgitte Engebretsen, administrerende direkt r i Telenor Norge er stolt og glad for at Telenor har bidratt til at det n er mobilforbindelse mellom de norske polaromr dene.
- V rt samfunnsoppdrag er blant annet tilby teknologi som gj r forskningsarbeid enklere. Vi ser at fremveksten av v re nye teknologiske l sninger gir nye muligheter for forskningen, sier Engebretsen.
Basestasjonen i Antarktis:God planlegging har muliggjort et slikt prosjekt. Antarktis er ikke et sted hvor man enkelt f r tak i reservedeler og noen lokale tilpasninger er derfor helt n dvendig, med god hjelp fra personell tilknyttet til forskningsstasjonen.
Installasjonen vil v re utsatt for harde p kjenninger med vindstyrke over 300km/h, stein og grus som l ftes av vinden og sv rt lave temperaturer gjennom den Antarktiske vinteren.
