The European Commission with him European Audiovisual Observatory que gestiona el proyecto, ha puesto en marcha el directorio Lumiere VOD que pretende a ayudar a los profesionales, las autoridades p blicas y los ciudadanos a encontrar informaci n sobre las pel culas europeas y su disponibilidad en l nea en los servicios de v deo a la carta (VOD) en toda la Uni n Europea.
Mariya Gabriel, Comisaria de la UE de Econom a y Sociedad Digital, y Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretario General del Consejo, en presencia de Silvia Costa, eurodiputada y Relatora para la Europa Creativa y Presidenta del ARP, junto con el cineasta Radu Milaileanu han sido los encargados de presentar este proyecto.
La base de datos contiene informaci n sobre m s de 35.000 pel culas europeas ofrecidas 150.000 veces en VOD. Estos datos se han tomado de 250 cat logos VOD diferentes disponibles en 28 pa ses europeos.
En la actualidad, s lo el 29% de las pel culas ofrecidas por los servicios de v deo a la carta en la UE son europeas y hasta ahora no existen bases de datos europeas de pel culas disponibles en v deo a la carta, s lo herramientas nacionales en l nea. Esto a pesar de que Europa es un actor importante en el cine mundial, con m s de 18 000 pel culas producidas entre 2007 y 2017 y un volumen de producci n mundial que ha aumentado en un 47 % entre 2007 y 2017.
Mariya Gabriel ha asegurado que Europa ha sido y sigue siendo un gran actor en la producci n cinematogr fica. Nos corresponde a nosotros garantizar que las obras europeas disfruten del p blico que se merecen. Lumiere VOD, que ya cubre m s de 150 servicios de VOD y 35 000 pel culas europeas, es una iniciativa tomada en el marco de nuestra estrategia #Digital4Culture .
Susanne Nikoltchev, directora ejecutiva del Observatorio Audiovisual Europeo, declar que la creaci n de Lumiere VOD es un desarrollo l gico de la investigaci n del Observatorio y de su valiosa experiencia en los mercados europeos de VOD .
Tanto la Comisi n Europea como el Observatorio esperan que esta nueva plataforma ofrezca una mayor transparencia en relaci n con el mercado europeo de VOD. De hecho, puede contribuir a aumentar la presencia, la visibilidad y la circulaci n de las pel culas europeas a trav s de las fronteras.
Con los nuevos avances, esta herramienta podr a proporcionar adem s una indicaci n del nivel de aplicaci n de la cuota del 30 % de obras europeas para los servicios de v deo a la carta contenida en la Directiva de servicios de medios audiovisuales (AVMSD) y contribuir as al objetivo pol tico de garantizar y aumentar la presencia de obras europeas en los servicios de v deo a la carta disponibles en la Uni n Europea.
