Thales and Siemens to pursue the development of Spain's high speed line network, on the Antequera-Granada section

A Temporary Joint Venture (55/45) between Thales and Siemens Rail Automation has been awarded a 208.7 million contract by Adif Alta Velocidad for the installation signalling, telecommunications and security technologies, on the high-speed line linking Antequera and Granada, in the south of Spain. These solutions will ensure the security of the line's passengers and infrastructures. In addition, the two companies will perform the maintenance of the installations for a 20-year period.

As leader, Thales will be responsible for the overall project management and will install its electronic interlocking solution with the associated equipment. The Group will also modify existing Thales technology on the C rdoba-M laga high-speed line.

Siemens Rail Automation will install its ERTMS level 2 with ASFA train protection system, and its solution for track circuits and LED signals. Siemens will also make the modifications to the ERTMS technology installed on the high-speed C rdoba-M laga.

The Antequera-Granada high-speed line, which is roughly 126 kilometres long, will provide a direct, high-speed link between Granada and other cities including M laga, C rdoba, Seville, and Madrid. It will also contribute to boosting and enhancing links within Andalusia itself.

Thales and Siemens Rail Automation boast wide-ranging national and international expertise in traffic control and rail security systems for high-speed, conventional and metropolitan lines. Both companies have jointly undertaken projects on different Spanish high-speed lines.
