DMC Production and Matchday Production undergo ambitious broadcast infrastructure modernisation project for Danish sports leagues By Jo Ruddock

Live sports production company DMC Production and Matchday Production, a joint venture between DMC Production and the Superligaen football league, have completed an ambitious project to modernise the broadcast infrastructure for Denmark's top sports leagues, including the Superligaen and Metalligaen Danish Ice Hockey.
This modernisation required several key issues to be addressed, including the need to produce 193 productions and VAR sessions for the Superligaen annually over six years (2024-2029) while managing up to 800 matches per year across various leagues and up to six simultaneous matches per league.
The transition to remote production using JPEG XS and SDI to ST2110 studios, with the introduction of TR-08 in 2025 to streamline operations and reduce on-site resources, was also a factor, as was ensuring reliable fibre connectivity across 60 arenas, with dual 100Gb connectivity to DMC Nordic production centres in Copenhagen and dual 10Gb in Oslo.
To achieve this, DMC Production and Matchday Production implemented a comprehensive solution involving state-of-the-art technology and strategic partnerships. This included establishing a centralised remote production model, reducing the need for extensive on-site equipment and personnel. This model leverages Net Insight's Nimbra platform for reliable and efficient content delivery.
Three classes of production vehicles (large, medium, and small) equipped to handle productions of varying sizes are now being deployed. These vehicles ensure flexibility and scalability in managing different production requirements.
Large production vehicles feature 12 system cameras, one block camera, two in-goal cameras, one camera RF Link, and a drone; medium production vehicles have eight system cameras; and small production vehicles have two system cameras and two wireless cameras.
The set up utilises TDC's fibre network to connect the 60 arenas with dual 100Gb connectivity to the DMC Nordic production centres. This ensures high-speed and reliable data transfer for seamless remote production. Trucks connect with 10Gb.
The broadcast centre, equipped with four linear production rooms, four audio rooms, five production desks, six VAR desks and 40 CCU panels, supports a centralised production model that enhances operational efficiency. Oslo, with similar infrastructure, serves as a backup during peak times, allowing both production and VAR operations to be managed from Oslo or remotely from Denmark. This ensures flexibility, resilience and consistent high-quality broadcasts, even during high-demand periods.
A centralised VAR system for the Superligaen has also been implemented, covering 193 games annually. This ensures accurate and consistent officiating, enhancing the overall quality of the broadcasts.
AI-driven production is being uutilised for the 2nd and 3rd divisions, covering 192 games each. This approach leverages automation to manage lower-tier games efficiently while maintaining high production standards.
Net Insight's Nimbra platform delivers the reliability and trust required, as we have seen from many of our previous reference cases in remote production, said Trond Hermansen, group CTO, DMC Production. It was actually the case that we were concerned about the reliability of alternative solutions for this project.
The result is a setup that meets the expectations of modern viewers and new broadcast players, while reducing the need for extensive on-site resources and minimising logistical challenges. The remote production model also contributes to a greener approach in football production, reducing the carbon footprint associated with extensive on-site operations.
