PRNewswire/ -- Leading server appliance manufacturer MBX Systems today announced the development of new reference platforms for next-generation video applications requiring extreme speed and storage performance, including delivery of 4K 3D video. The new reference designs can be adapted to any size base server, fully customized for each customer, and used to create powerhouse hardware solutions for applications ranging from post-production processing to video content creation and content delivery networks (CDNs).
The new designs combine the latest NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSDs with and without 3D NAND flash, helium drives, Intel Xeon v4 Broadwell-Ep processors and other technologies to support todays increasingly demanding video workloads, while also providing ample expansion space and a price/performance ratio that fits the budgets of ISVs and service providers.
Components include Seagate Nytro XF1440/ XM1440, Intel DC P3500/P3600/P3700 or Samsung 850/863/950/951 NVMe drives featuring ultra-fast read speeds up to 2500 MzHzHHB/s per drive; Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 processors boasting 2400 MHz frequencies, Intel Turbo Boost Technology, and up to 22 cores and 44 threads per socket enabling 8% faster memory performance and a 24% improvement in other operations over predecessor solutions; Intel Visual Compute Accelerators for lightning-fast video encoding and 4K video handling; and more.
Proof of Concept
MBX has already utilized these technologies to engineer a custom video server system for a leading content provider with exceptionally complex hardware needs. No other appliance builder was able to develop a working configuration that fulfilled the customers requirements.
As content volumes continue to grow and newer technologies like 360-degree 4K video take hold, hardware must deliver new performance benchmarks ranging from faster transfer speeds and higher IOPS to bigger storage capacity, said Bill Conrades, Technical Sales Engineer at MBX Systems. Our new reference designs push the envelope to give ISVs and service providers the most robust solutions available today for collaborative editing, transcoding, video streaming, and any number of other video applications.

Other benefits for ISVs and service providers include a plug-and-play production environment that eliminates the need to rent and furnish dedicated floor space or spend weeks creating the software image, testing and configuration package; simultaneous configuration of 600+ units through advanced automation and a proprietary Super Cell setup that accelerate final assembly and order fulfillment for larger batch sizes; and integration with customer systems through MBXs REST API, enabling remote completion of configuration tasks running outside the MBX environment.
