Encoding.com has integrated Harmonic's ProMedia Xpress media processing engine for the transcoding and packaging of SD, HD, and UHD VOD assets at the highest quality and fastest speeds.
As the call to deliver on-demand content to every device imaginable increases, service providers are facing pressure from content providers to meet evolving requirements for popular adaptive formats such as Apple HTTP-Live-Streaming (HLS), Microsoft Smooth Streaming (MSS), Adobe HTTP-Dynamic-Streaming (HDS), or MPEG-DASH. Workflow speed and efficiency is critical. Service providers are bound by Service Level Agreements that are driven by advertising and tied to revenue that is dictated by timely delivery of VOD content. Keeping viewers happy is also mission-critical, as consumers expect the highest quality experience across every device.
Encoding.com's parallel-computing technology dramatically improves transcoding performance. By combining Harmonic's most advanced multi-screen packaging, seamless integration with ProMedia X Origin Video Server, and a scalable file-based workflow, this solution delivers the operational regimen that 24/7 VOD environments demand.
Leading Performance & Scale
By implementing ProMedia Xpress on the Encoding.com Cloud, we've delivered a multi-threaded solution that achieves unparalleled encoding speed. By reducing complex media-processing tasks into simpler components, then processing them in parallel across a scalable architecture, bottlenecks associated with purpose-built hardware are removed. Because of this, our implementation of ProMedia Xpress can scale in real-time while providing superior performance without the need for dedicated hardware.
Ultra-Fast Packaging & Processing
Combing transcoding and packaging in a comprehensive application enables multi-bitrate assets to be encapsulated such that they are optimized for multi-screen delivery protocols such as HLS, MSS, HDS, & MPEG-DASH. When using a ProMedia X Origin Server transcoding and packaging are handled separately so that content can be transcoded, stored as a mezzanine file, and then packaged for each protocol. This reduces repetitive processing of compute-intensive tasks. By storing assets in the mezzanine format, repackaging as formats and protocols evolve is far more efficient.
Unlimited Scale Across the Globe
Encoding.com is running ProMedia Xpress in 10 MPAA Certified global data centers on almost every continent (sorry Africa & Antarctica). Encoding.com's implementation of ProMedia Xpress is designed for high-volume multi-format delivery and optimized to concurrently generate the highest quality h.264 and h.265 streams. This optimizes workflows and results in faster-than-realtime media processing. Because of the Encoding.com platform intelligence, customer usage can scale from a single instance to many instances to meet real-time demand as requirements change. In addition, the Encoding.com API offers seamless integration of almost any DRM or CMS platform imaginable.
Protecting Your Investment
Because Encoding.com delivers ProMedia Xpress as SaaS, customers can take advantage of the most advanced media workflows with the no investment in hardware. In addition, Encoding.com manages and maintains the ProMedia Xpress engine, so there is no workflow disruption, and customers are always using the latest and greatest media processing engine available. This helps future-proof your spending and investment as is demanded by service providers.
Workflow Without Interruption
Encoding.com delivers ProMedia Xpress backed by their industry-leading SLA, which protects not only against platform downtime, but also queue time. Queue time is the time it takes for your job to start processing once ingest is completed, and Encoding.com is the only one in the industry to provide guarantees against this. Our 24/7 support ensures that customers can deliver media to every device every time.
