Both Sony and Panasonic have announced plans to launch new cameras for content creators in the coming months.

Sony is launching Cinema Line, a new series of cameras that will also includes existing products in the Sony range such as VENICE and FX9, as well the new FX6 camera, which is due to launch by the end of 2020.

Sony's FX6 camera According to the company, each of the Cinema Line cameras will evolve with user feedback: The FX9 Version 3 upgrade, available in 2021, will see the addition of the S700PTP allowing Remote Control of Sony's camera, a Center Scan mode for Super 16mm lens and B4 Lens support with its adaptor as well as other features. As of November 2020, the VENICE camera will see a couple of additional features in its V6.0 version which Sony said will improve its operability in broadcast and live environments.

Meanwhile, Panasonic has announced the LUMIX S5, a new hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera, which will be available at the end of September.

The camera contains a 24.2-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, as well as a maximum ISO 51200 of high sensitivity video with the adoption of the Dual Native ISO technology.

The LUMIX S5 is capable of 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit, and 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording. It is also capable of 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output.

It also provides 14+ stops of dynamic range, which is as wide as cinema cameras, and V-Log / V-Gamut compatibility with VariCam colour science. The camera also features a variety of recording formats and modes including 4:3 Anamorphic mode, Slow & Quick Motion, 4K/60p interval shooting and 4K HDR.
