CHANNEL 5 NEWS RELAUNCHES 6.30PM BULLETIN AS NEWSTALK LIVEChannel 5 News is revamping its weekday 6.30pm programme to become "NewsTalk Live" - a dedicated home for topical news debate.
From July 8th, the programme will have a brand new set and a focus on hosting live debates between informative and opinionated guests about the news agendas biggest talking points. Viewers that have had their daily digest of the days news in Channel 5s 5pm bulletin will be offered this different, engaging proposition for more in-depth analysis and comment on the stories of the day. They also have a chance to make their views about the top stories known. Emma Crosby will present the new programme in addition to continuing to anchor Channel 5 News.
The launch of NewsTalk Live sees Channel 5 News building on an editorial shift towards more debates and discussion. Since ITN relaunched the service in February 2012 there have been over 1,000 guests debating issues on the 6.30pm programme - ranging from the welfare state to the impact of the Boston bombings and from EU membership to the decline of the high street.
The 6.30pm programme will continue to be broadcast from the bespoke virtual reality studio built by ITN at Channel 5 headquarters in Lower Thames Street.
"Launching NewsTalk Live builds on a year of high editorial achievement, shows a news programme thats really found its place and continues the Channel 5 News tradition of breaking new ground in TV news," said Geoff Hill, Editor of Channel 5 News. "Our flagship 5pm programme continues to offer viewers something unique as its the first terrestrial tea-time bulletin of the day. Now it will be complemented by a different proposition at 6.30pm that will be both engaging and informative. Emma and the production team have done a fantastic job over the last months developing our focus on debates, and this formal revamp will take it up another level by being the only dedicated news debate show in primetime."
