Optimizing Your Videos for YouTube Are you getting the most bang for your YouTube buck? Optimizing your channel is a key step if you want your videos to go viral. Here are some steps for getting the most out of your YouTube channel.

1. Descriptive Title Once you have your channel set up and your first video uploaded, writing a descriptive title is key. There's some evidence that including keywords like how to, tutorial, and video can increase your chances of getting you video featured in Google search results.

You can do keyword research for video just like you would for a website. YouTube offers a free keyword tool that you can use to make sure the words you're using are the words that people are searching for!

2. Keyword Heavy Descriptions Video descriptions can be up to 5,000 characters long, so there's plenty of space to be creative. Make sure you make your keywords appear front and center even if you're going for a more whimsical description. Then, use those keywords in your tagging, too!

3. Customized Links YouTube allows full links to be added to the description, and that can be a great tool if you're trying to track the success of your video! We recommend embedding any important links right in the beginning of the description. That way people can see it without having to click through the Read More option. If you're looking to track specific traffic, consider using a service like bit.ly to make custom links.
