The National Film and Video Foundation to engage the Western Cape film industry

Apart from the stakeholder engagement, the NFVF will host two days workshop sessions from the 31st of October until the 1st of November 2013. The workshops will be held at the Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau in Waterfront, Ster-Kinekor is the event sponsor. The focus of these workshops will be on various aspects of filmmaking across the value chain; such as directing, producing, scriptwriting, distribution, as well as performance class.

A new addition to the NFVF workshops is animation, which will be conducted by Stuart Forest, popularly known for his sterling production of Adventures in Zambezia and Khumba, which is currently occupying the number one spot at the South African Box Office. Mayenzeke Baza will provide filmmakers with a guide on how to approach international markets and festivals, as well as contributing to the In Conversation With session which will feature other attending industry experts. Industry experts and personalities attending comprise actor Mutodi Neshehe, Roberta Durrant (Felix), John Volmink(Blitz Patrollie), Stuart Forest(Adventures in Zambezia, Khumba), Mayenzeke Baza(Blood Tokoloshe), Harry Toonboon and Clive Fischer(Ster Kinekor).

Western Cape is without a doubt one of the successful regions in South African film industry. It is therefore important to engage the industry in this province to sustain good relations as well as ensuring that we all work towards a common goal of growing the industry. We believe that in order for the local industry to realize its full potential, there must be an ongoing dialogue between all the role players across the value chain, to ensure a collective approach in dealing with the challenges and also in identifying opportunities to be pursued. We therefore call all Western Cape film stakeholders to come and engage with us and to also participate at the scheduled workshops, says NFVF CEO Zama Mkosi.

Mkosi added that the stakeholder engagement session is also part of the build-up to the 2013 SA Film Indaba to be held on the 14th and 15th of November at the Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. Our approach is to ensure that the industry gets the opportunity to give input on the development of the SA film strategy which will form part of the agenda at the Film Indaba, concludes Mkosi.
