Harris Corporation Providing Redundant Network Infrastructure to Support Federal Aviation Administration Communications Highlights:

MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON, October 23, 2013 (Harris Booth #511) Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) is implementing redundant dual core network infrastructure on a nationwide basis to enhance the availability of the Federal Aviation Administrations (FAA) existing communications network. The announcement was made during the Air Traffic Controllers Association (ATCA) conference being held October 20-23 at the Gaylord National in Washington, DC. The Dual Core project is an extension of the Harris-provided FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) network. FTI provides the voice, data and video communications backbone for National Airspace System operations, enabling safe and efficient air travel for more than two million passengers each day. It securely connects more than 4,300 national and international FAA and military facilities, manages over 26,000 services, and supports more than 50,000 users. The Dual Core architecture will provide another layer of protection for FTI that will enhance the overall availability of Internet Protocol (IP) services used by the FAA for communications. Dual Core leverages the Harris Trusted Enterprise Network a secure, private network built to the same rigorous standards as FTI. The redundant architecture means that NextGen data will be transmitted over both networks simultaneously. If either network were to experience an outage, duplicate data from the other network will be delivered and the FAA will automatically and transparently continue to receive the information it needs. FTI is key to the progress and success of the FAAs NextGen communications programs, which rely on IP technology to deliver voice and data between air traffic controllers, pilots and ground personnel, said John OSullivan, vice president, NextGen Initiatives for Civil Programs, Harris Government Communications Systems.
