7th November 2012 IQ Modular Provides Reliable, High-Performing Infrastructure for New SMG News Centre, Shanghai Leading Chinese-Language Media Company Chooses Snell Gear in Equipment Shootout for HD News Broadcast Centre
READING, U.K. Nov. 7, 2012 Snell today announced that SMG, one of the worlds most influential Chinese-language media and entertainment groups, has built its new SMG News Centre on an IQ Modular infrastructure. The HD news broadcast centre in Shanghai will provide news content to the Oriental Satellite Channel and a local news channel. Supplied by Shanghai Kunsi Digital Limited, the Snell infrastructure equipment will support these operations primarily by performing HD/SD up/downconversion, embedding and de-embedding audio, video distribution, and synchronization of feeds from 10 connected studios and any other external sources.
"SMG chose Snell IQ Modular equipment for its facility because it is robust enough to perform all of the work required in a 24/7 news centre," said Mr Liu, Bingguang, general manager of Shanghai Kunsi Digital Limited. "The Snell systems tested very well during a competitive evaluation, and an earlier installation in SMG studios had given a firsthand experience of their high reliability. With superior performance coupled with its extensive range of modules, the IQ Modular infrastructure was an ideal fit for this project."
SMG, a subsidiary of Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group, was founded in 2001 through the merging of Radio Shanghai, Eastern Radio Shanghai, Shanghai Television, Oriental Television Station, and Shanghai Cable Television. The company produces TV and radio programs in news, entertainment, sports, finance, and music, as well as TV series, documentaries, and cartoons. It operates in a demanding environment, broadcasting 252 hours of TV on a daily basis and consequently requires highly robust equipment alongside first-class support in case of any problems.
