Story Highlights
Last Friday, the industry got its first real look at, perhaps, the most hotly-anticipated in-venue videoboard in some time as the LA Clippers hosted media and guests for an unveiling of the Daktronics designed and built screen in Inglewood on Friday.
The Intuit Dome Halo Board is touted as the largest ever double-sided halo display in an arena setting. It covers nearly a full acre of space over the Intuit Dome, which is set to open with a pair of Bruno Mars concerts in August before serving as the new home of the NBA's Clippers this fall.
The LA Clippers unveiled the Intuit Dome Halo Board during a press event on Friday.
According to Daktronics, the double-sided halo display is 4K-capable and features 38,375 square feet of digital canvas. The inner halo display measures 32 feet high by 623 feet in circumference while the outer halo display measures 28 feet high by 661 feet in circumference. It also features a 3.9-millimeter pixel layout.
When asked what Intuit Dome's defining feature will be, there are just so many answers, Jillian Zucker, CEO of Halo Sports and Entertainment, the new umbrella entity created to oversee the Clippers, its G-League affiliate, the Ontario Clippers, the Intuit Dome, and the Kia Forum, said during the event, but when I think about what fans will be thinking about when they drive home very well may be the size, shape and capability of this board.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer also noted during the event that he wanted the Halo Board to not simply be eye candy, but to truly innovate and improve upon the fan experience. During the event, the presentation outlined different looks and take overs designed to deliver a better understanding of the game and the players, as well as generate sound from fans in the bowl. On game nights, the screen will display various game feeds, a coaches corner with in-depth stats, instant replays, player spotlights, and more.
You could say, Hey, it's just a thing that's supposed to be there to be impressive' - almost like some artwork, Ballmer said. But I didn't want that and wanted to make sure that thing was totally functional, that it really added to the game.
Clippers' owner Steve Ballmer hopes the Hal Board innovates the educational side of the live basketball fan experience.
While the worry could be that the Halo Board could be a bit distracting from the action on the court, the Clippers did specifically design and engineer the roof of the Intuit Dome roof to accommodate the unique Halo Board, making sure it remained unpleasantly out of sightlines from all seats, especially those in the upper bowl.
Naturally, the centerhung Halo Board is far from the only video display in the building. Additional screens are located inside and outside Intuit Dome, including large lobby displays and a big 23-foot-high by 190-foot-wide screen overlooking an outdoor basketball court on The Plaza.
Stay tuned to SVG in the coming weeks for a deeper look at the state of the art audio/video technology and infrastructure inside the Intuit Dome.
