Turkish Pay-TV operator D-Smart Powers OTT Multiscreen Services With Broadpeak BkS400 Servers Utilizing the BkS400, D-Smart Can More Efficiently Deliver Live and VOD OTT Services on a Variety of Devices While Ensuring a Superior QoS.
RENNES, France - May 9, 2013- Broadpeak, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) technologies and video-on-demand (VOD) servers for cable, IPTV, OTT, and hybrid TV operators worldwide, today announced that D-Smart, Turkey's youngest and fastest growing digital broadcasting platform, has deployed Broadpeak's BkS400 video servers to manage its OTT streaming services. Leveraging HTTP adaptive streaming technology and a massive streaming capacity, the high-performance servers enable D-Smart to more efficiently stream high-quality live and VOD services to approximately 2 million subscribers on a wide range of devices, including TVs, PCs, and tablets.
With subscriber demand for OTT streaming services growing every day, D-Smart needed a more powerful and flexible server to support additional sessions and traffic, said Erdogan Simsek, DTH technical director, D-Smart. Broadpeak's BkS400 uses adaptive bit rate technology to speed up OTT delivery while ensuring a high quality of service for viewers. Since deploying the new servers, we've dramatically increased the amount of content streamed to traditional and handheld devices.
Broadpeak's BkS400 server streamlines OTT video delivery by supporting a variety of HTTP adaptive streaming standards, including Apple HLS and Microsoft Smooth Streaming. Using the server, D-Smart is able to cache VOD content at the edge of the network, reducing congestion. The BkS400 also features a massive streaming capacity that helps D-Smart quickly respond to fluctuations in viewer demand during popular live events, such as sports. Through a flexible, software-based architecture, the operator can easily scale to support additional services and sessions as well as next-generation HTTP formats.
