American Tobacco hosted a Spring Scavenger Hunt for families on Saturday, April 3, 2021, the first event on campus in over year.
American Tobacco hosted a Spring Scavenger Hunt filled with fun for families, the campus first event in over a year, on Saturday, April 3, 2021. The hunt officially celebrated the opening of ATCs newest retail/restaurant tenant, Parker and Otis, drew traffic to other campus restaurants and benefited the Durham nonprofit Families Moving Forward.
The six-station scavenger hunt featured clues that were poetry driven. Stations included an art, bubble, and a celebrity photo station featuring Wool E. Bull.
Families signed up in advance for timed entry slots, to enable social distancing. Net proceeds from the registration fee of $5 per person was donated to Families Moving Forward, an organization which helps provide families with children who are experiencing temporary homelessness.
Parker and Otis suggested the non-profit and agreed to design the bunny treat bags that children received at the end of the hunt, explained ATC Events & Property Experience Director Valerie Ward. ATC Restaurants/Retailer had an opportunity to provide special discount coupons for the parents bags.
Sponsors of the family event included Parker & Otis, Parker Paper Co., Moes Southwest, Bella Trio, Aloft Durham Downtown and the Durham Bulls.
It was also a test event where we experimented with paid admission, timed entry and fine-tuned our Covid-19 event staff, housekeeping and security protocols, said Ward. Given that restrictions are starting to relax and more people continue to be vaccinated, we are hopeful our community events will resume in the fall.

Serving the Durham community, NC, Families Moving Forward (FMF) helps provide families with children a stable, safe, and loving environment while they are in the temporary crisis of homelessness. FMF now offers after-school tutoring, educational enrichment programming, and early interventions to children residing in our shelter as part of a two-generation approach that aims to break the cycle of poverty in our community.
