For this year s Cinequest Picture the Possibilities (PTP) youth empowerment programme, PTP coordinator Marcela Villegas Casta n chose the Litepanels 1x1 LS Traveler Trio Plus Kit to go on the road to diverse locations to help light the various youth production projects.

An annual event, Cinequest s Picture the Possibilities mentors teens to create feature films that focus on content vital to empowering global youth. For its third season, Villegas and Cinequest s co-founders Kathleen J. Powell and Halfdan Hussey, have produced films in 10 global cities from East Palo Alto, California to Hong Kong, Jakarta and Phnom Penh. Professional filmmakers involved in Cinequest help teens take an idea they are passionate about and develop that idea into a film that is then shared with a global audience.

As the PTP Coordinator, I travel on my own to each location, meeting our Core Team and Mentors, says Villegas. My shooting package has to be lightweight and portable, she explains. We tend to utilise cameras that our mentors are familiar with, usually a Canon 5D. As our programme grew, we knew that we would need lightweight, durable, portable and high quality lights to continue to produce world-class films with our youth. Litepanels 1x1 LS Traveler Trio Plus Kit is perfect for our needs.

The lightweight, discreet and compact build of the LED kit makes it easy for me to carry and transport on my own, she explains. During our session in Mexico, for example, we had a number of scenes that took place in tight locations. The Litepanels kit was nice and compact with minimal cables, so it did not interfere with the space needed to set up camera and to fill the room with PTP participants. Best of all, the quality of the light output helped give the films a professional look.

Villegas Litepanels 1x1 Traveler Trio Plus Kit allowed her to take studio quality lighting on the road. It features two LS Bi-Colors (50 beam angle and colour adjustment setting between daylight and tungsten colour balance), and one 1 1 LS Daylight Flood (50 beam angle) fixture, three 9 stands and AC power supplies all fitting in a hard wheeled case.

The lights also have the option of adding adapters to make them fully battery operated, eliminating the need for electrical outlets and connections, she adds. This option gives us the freedom to film in more rural areas.

Working with PTP has truly been a wonderful opportunity to make an impact in the lives of youth, Villegas adds. The transformative films created by our youth contain subject matter that is relevant to teens around the globe, offering positive solutions for a better tomorrow. We have films touching on the impact of celebrity image, social media friends vs. real friends, bullying, teen depression, violence in neighbourhoods, the stigma of brand named Items, and more.

For Cinequest Connect, March 2014, the producers will invite global PTP youth to the Silicon Valley to connect with leaders and luminaries and premiere the films created during Picture the Possibilities Season Three.
