BURBANK, Calif. - June 17, 2015 - KCETLink Media Group, the national independent, non-profit digital and broadcast network, announced today a special Independence Day programming marathon featuring four back-to-back episodes from season three of the internationally critically acclaimed series BORGEN.

The Danish saga uncovers a world of political gamesmanship, the intricate public and private lives of politicians, media spinners, and the reporters who traffic in their triumphs and failures. The special BORGEN on the Fourth of July marathon will air in Southern California on July 4 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. PT on KCET. The programming event will also be telecast nationally on July 4 from 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT to 2 a.m. ET / 11 p.m. PT on Link TV (DirecTV 375 and DISH Network 9410).

In this special binge-worthy event of the series that is broadcast in the U.S. exclusively on KCET and Link TV, both avid fans and new viewers of BORGEN will be able to tune-in and enjoy the first four episodes of season three. While earlier episodes in this series told the story of Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), a woman who becomes the Prime Minister of Denmark in a stunning election victory and the effect of that position on her family and her political alliances, season three continues Brigittes story two and a half years after she leaves the post of Prime Minister and is now a highly paid speaker in business circles. The series is broadcast in Danish with English subtitles.

A breakdown of the episodes is as follows:

In Denmark I Was Born - Birgitte Nyborg has left the political arena but is disillusioned at the direction her party has taken and thus, plans a comeback.

With Law Shall Nation Be Built - Birgitte, forced to acknowledge her defeat to Jacob Kruse in the battle for the leadership of the Moderates, decides to start her own political party.

The Right Shade Of Brown - The New Democrats are in chaos when they participate in a television discussion on the integration of ethnic minorities that results while Birgitte and her children move into a less expensive apartment.

One Mans Loss - Birgitte is forced to recognize that ethics and economics can be difficult things to juggle when she begins to discuss animal treatment.

These special episodes of the Peabody and BAFTA award-winning Danish series will also stream online at kcet.org/borgen and linktv.org/borgen for two weeks following each broadcast date. Web extras also include character maps, behind-the-scenes videos, downloadable still photos and episode recaps from all three of the seasons.

Deemed smart and compelling by The Los Angeles Times, compulsively watchable by Vulture, and the best political show ever by The Daily Beast, BORGEN initially launched in the U.S. on Link TV in 2011, and the series quickly gained an ardent stateside fan base and high critical acclaim. With seasons one and two airing on KCET and Link TV since May 2013, BORGEN has continued to build momentum.

The recipient of the 2012 BAFTA International Award and the 2013 Monte Carlo Television Festival Award for Best European Drama Series, BORGEN is created and written by producer Adam Price and co-writers Jeppe Gjervig Gram and Tobias Lindholm. The series is produced by DR, the Danish public broadcaster that produced the international Danish hit series, THE KILLING.
