The annual Dakar Rally is back and returns to Saudi Arabia for its fifth consecutive year with all the best action available exclusive and free to SBS and SBS On Demand with daily highlights from January 6 to January 20.

The 2024 Dakar Rally marks Australian Red Bull rider and previous world champion, Toby Price's, 10th year battling out the challenging desert route. As the countdown is on, Toby will look to make amends from last year's narrow defeat and add to his previous two wins. Current 4 wheel champion and Prodrive Qatari driver, Nasser Al-Attiyah will return to defend his title, with Australian Daniel Saunders looking to improve on his 4th place position from last year's rally.

Organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation, the Dakar Rally is the world's biggest rally raid with the best female and male motorcycle, car, quad bike, and truck drivers in the world battling it out in its famously tough terrain, testing even the world's best in their off-road endurance. Part adventure, part long distance race, the rally kicks off the first round of the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship.

Spanning 5,000 kilometres, the Dakar Rally route is an expansive field of traverse sand, rocks, gravel, and tarmac with competitors attempting to travel through the difficult conditions as quickly as possible. The 2024 route will encompass a prologue and 12 competitive stages, with 778 drivers from across the globe setting off from the 1000 year old city of Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia, across the Empty Quarter before finishing in Yanbu on the shores of the Red Sea. Over half of the journey will feature new stages with the new 48-hour marathon expected to be the most challenging as the Dakarists' navigate 600 kilometres and an overnight stoppage.

The 2024 Dakar Rally fuels up and starts on Friday January 5 in Saudi Arabia and concludes Friday January 19. Daily highlights will air on SBS from Saturday January 6 at 5.00pm to 6.00pm AEDT concluding on Saturday January 20 and will be available on SBS On Demand early morning the same day as broadcast.
