Overall planning for Ningbo-Zhoushan Port issued

As the first port with a 900 million-ton cargo throughput in the world, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has attracted much attention and concern on its future development. Recently, the "overall planning (2014-2030) of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port" has been approved by the Ministry of Transport and Zhejiang Provincial Government, elaborating on such aspects as the ports functional orientation, development and layout of the port area, and the land and water arrangement of the port. According to the planning, the estimated cargo throughputs of the port in 2020 and 2030 will be 1.17 billion tons and 1.44 billion tons respectively.

The planning states that Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is an important coastal port of China as well as an important hub of the national comprehensive transport system. During the planning period, with the focus on the trans-shipment of bulk energy and raw materials and container line haul, the port will actively develop such functions as modern logistics, shipment service, port-related industries, bonded trade, strategic stockpile and tourist transportation, with the aim of building a modern comprehensive port featuring reasonable layout, full capacity, complete function, green environment and port-city integration.

The port will accelerate the resource integration and in-depth cooperation and actively build the sea-river coordination service center, thus leading to the transformation from a large port to a powerful port. With the principles of "coordinated planning, distance combination, deep-water exploration, reasonable development and effective protection", the port will have a total planned shoreline of 550 kilometers, accounting for 11% of the natural shorelines of Ningbo and Zhoushan.

The planning also presents the layout of "one port, four cores and 19 zones" to enlarge the development space and guarantee the sustainable development. With the agglomeration effect of the port, the authority will develop its functions in modern logistics and trade services, and promote the construction of the Meishan Bonded Port and the comprehensive bonded zone of Zhoushan Port by taking advantage of the preferential policies.
