OB production firm Floating Earth takes order of Lawo console in upgrade

Company installed the mc 56 mixing console with five mxDSP Cards and Nova73 Compact router into its vehicle earlier this month

UK OB production and post outfit Floating Earth has upgraded its OB Truck's mixing and routing facilities, selecting German firm Lawo as its main supplier.

The facility, whose clients include BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Warner Music and Sony, installed Lawo's mc 56 mixing console with five mxDSP Cards and Nova73 Compact router into its vehicle earlier this month.

The firm said that the purchase was promoted its wish to upgrade the truck to reflect the changing nature of its assignments, as track counts continually increase, and the use of 96kHz recording becomes more widespread.

Floating Earth added that it was also attracted by the console's cut and paste' feature which it said were natural and powerful .

Lawo's console comes in five different frame sizes to meet the needs of smaller OB vehicles with as few as 16 faders and as many as 80 faders for more complex applications Floating Earth opted for a 46-fader model.

The solution allows for Ravenna connectivity and comes with the ability to support its own stageboxes.

The console was recently put to work on a live recording for BBC's Children in Need Rocks concert with sound supervisor Toby Alington at the SSE Arena in Wembley, due to broadcast on BBC1 later this week.
